I don't smoke... but i sure did grow up with a lot of smokers... my grandmother, all of my uncles, my father, and sometimes my mother... all of them are smokers... some are heavy some mild... but none of them ever had the initiative to teach me or my sibling how to smoke... i guess they know that it is bad for the health... even though they themselves do it...
I never learned how to smoke... since i never tried to... and i am just glad that i did not... because i can see how my father is addicted to smoking... and i know some people whose health deteriorated because of this habit... i just hope my father would realize that he should really quit...
Do you smoke?... if you do... who taught you how to smoke?...

nobody really taught me per se..i just picked it up.
but both my parents smoked and the one still does.i guess on some level it might have been second hand addiction.

addicted.
it's the habits that get you-if you smoke on the phone,or after dinner, you always want that.so when you try to quit, things like that will trigger cravings.

Unfortantly I smoke. I have tried to quit a number of times. i have even quit before for a good year and ended up starting back up. I first started back when I was 16 at a friends house well a old friends house when I was 16 years old. this year makes 20 years since I started some this October. I really need to quit again. My grandmother passed away 2 years ago from lung and throat cancer from smoking. So I should no better. I am glad you never started it is a very bad and nasty habit.

I am also glad i never started smoking... and i think you should try really hard to quit... since from your other discussions... you already mentioned that you have other health problems... and that might lessen if you finally quit smoking... so, i hope you do...
Thanks for the response...

Hello aseretdd,
I don't smoke and nor do my husband. My late brother didn't smoke and the second elder too. Only my youngest brother smokes and he has this habit while studying in varsity. My late father was a smoker too but he managed to quit few years before he passed away. He was lucky not to have any kind of serious illness due to his smoking habit. I don't like to be near someone who smokes as I couldn't stand the smell. It is sometimes irritate me and when this happens, I will just go away.

I make it a point to show a smoker that i am not at all pleased when he/she is smoking near me... good thing my father goes outside of the house everytime he wants to smoke... since he knows that second hand smoking is far more worsts... good thing your father was able to quit before he passed away... some can't even do that...

My friends, of course, who else.
Its easy, its like this, you like the feeling, are you high, yeah, wow !
My friends were a good bunch of guys who liked to spread the fun.
They started me on a forty year habit.
I can't say I really regret it.
But I wish I hadn't started.

If they are really a good bunch of guys... then they should know that smoking is bad for the health... since it can and will cause a lot of damage to the body... not just of the smoker... but of those who will inhale the smoke... i hope you will quit in the near future...

i dont smoke anymore but i still remember the first time because until now, I have regrets and wished i had not succumb to peer pressure..
I was in second year high school when a friend taught me how..I didn't like it but I was young and stu*id, I know it's not an excuse, but in those days, if I wanna belong, i had to abide by the group's rules..
I had so many hung ups at that time and problems at home and they were the only friends who, I thought, accepted me..And in order to belong, I had to do what they ask me to and the first trial was smoking.
I now have Diabetes not only because of too much carb and sweets but also from smoking..It came to a point where I have to chose of course, my life, and stopped smoking...

We all learn the hard way... it is just too bad that your health had to suffer that bad because of smoking... but it is good that you were able to turn you life around... and quit the habit before it creates more problems for you...

That is a good thing... eventhough most of your cousins smoked... you were not influenced by them... nor did you succumb to peer pressure... it is also a good thing that they decided to quit... there are a lot of bad repercussions to smoking heavily...
Thanks for the response...

That is quite an early time to start smoking... what did you parents say about that?... are you a mild smoker or a heavy one... i hope you are only a mild smoker since that i think is okay... but a heavy smoker is prone to a lot of health issues...

i'm not a smoker......
but nobody will try to teach abt smoking, because they no that its a bad habit and destroys the health......
But the interest comes into matter and help them to know how to smoke......
so its all interest not the persom who is going to teach...
some may not learn how to smoke even though others try to make him learn..why because this is called as interest....

You have a point there... is a person doesn't have the slightest interest in smoking... then nobody can force him/her to learn how to smoke... but for some... peer pressure and peer influence is too stong... so they succumb to smoking... even though they know that it is bad for their health...
Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy your stay here...

Nobody taught me and until now I never thought of smoking as a learning experience. I sort of think of NOT smoking as a learning experience. In my formative years smoking was considered trendy and chic and really encouraged, but being somewhat analytic, I was able to see both sides of the issue and realized I had a choice...as long as my choice was not to smoke. Smokers, I think, don't really have a choice, or I think they would choose to be nonsmokers. Everyone I know who COULD quit, did quit.

I agree... early in life we all have a choice if we want to or not want to smoke... but peer pressure and other life situations can be factors to the choices we make... i just feel sorry for those who want to quit... but can't because they are too addicted to smoking...

Good day... I was a smoker, I learned smoking from my colleagues while I was having my internship. It helped us to perform our night duty specially when there is no soda or coffee. I started in my late 20's and I quit last two years ago.
My health improved a lot since then.

That is a good thing... quitting to smoke is i read... one of the hardest thing to do... and not many people can successfully do it... so in your case... that is already a great achievement... i hope more and more people will follow your example...

I always believe that there is some advantages to smoking... but being addicted to it overshadows the advantages... because of the many health problems it can give... so i hope you are only a mild smoker... nothing wrong with that...
Thanks fro the response...

Peer pressure or peer influence is the biggest factor why a lot of people smoke these days... and i am glad that all of my friends in high school and college did not smoke... but i think even if they did... i still won't try smoking... since i really do not like the smell...

I guess it was my dad, that time was young and naive. Any thing so curious want to try, end up smoking with an addiction. Well now I've quit and leave those bad habits behind my back.

Your dad must be not that strict... other parents even though they smoke... they would forbid their children to have that habit... it is a good thing that you were able to quit and leave that bad habit behind... for the sake of you health and those who are near you...
Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy your stay here...

Being a casual smoker is not that bad... as long as a person knows how to control the number of sticks he/she smokes in a day... the smoking is okay... so i am glad you are one of those individuals who can control their smoking... there are only a few who can...

my father and elder brother smoke.
For me it is the environment teach us to smoke.
But it is depend on the person, there are people that really don't
like to smoke, unlike me that despite of the effect, I still smoke.
But I have plan to quit soon, like my father he quit when we are
in High School, so he is my bench mark.

I hope you will quit very soon since there are more disadvantages to smoking than the advantages... but then... i believe that one or two sticks at day won't hurt... as long as the person knows how to limit the number of sticks he/she smokes in a day... then there is nothing wrong with smoking...
Thanks for the response...
