I was a little girl when this invention became available. It was an exciting experience to watch television while eating lunch or dinner. Do you remember when tv trays were invented or if you aren't old enough, do you use them on a regular basis? Here is how I recall the early days of using tv trays: http://hubpages.com/hub/History-of-Television-Trays

I don't recall us using TV trays when I was little. I do remember those flimsy ones, we had some after I had been married for quite some time after my kids got a little older. My mother used to have some also so when my family and my brother's family all got together at her house we for sure had enough places for all of us to eat, the kids were happy to sit on the floor like a picnic to eat. haha Right now I have two wooden ones but not for eating on but for laptops.

Oh yeah they are really useful. Mine sits right beside the computer and I use it as a table in addition to the computer desk. Thanks for responding.

I remember those folding metal tv tray tables. We would eat on them while watching tv and then use it as a desk to do our homework, wow you brought back some memories, thanks for that.

I remember those. I don't remember when they first came out but I remember having some. They were metal and folded up. It was fun using them while watching TV. You could just open them and put your drink and food on them. Then close them when you were done.

I don't remember when they were invented. I remember only using them when I was sick in bed. I guess you can call them tv "tables" now days, the one with legs that reach the floor. W have those and usu them quite regularly.

Those lap trays came out after the invention of the initial 1954 tv tray. I had one of those too when I was sick in bed. Thanks for responding.

We never had these trays in the house but my grandma did and I always used it to eat while watching tv. I would love to get a nice wooden set but it's a dream that may never come true due to money issues. Really nice set costs over $100 here.

Can't remember exactly what I paid for this wooden tray but think it was around $20.00. It's up all the time in the computer room. I work on crafts using the table, pay bills and even use it to eat on while watching tv. Thanks so much for responding.

I love the one in the computer room. I keep so many things on it and it comes in handy since my computer desk isn't big. Thanks for responding.

i remember when we were kids, my little brother and i were watching this little kid from down the street (we didn't like him very much). he would cry no matter what and always stank so bad. to top it off he was ugliest one in that ugly family (it's true). anyway, the tv tray thing...well, as much as i hate to admit it, i look back and just laugh myself to the floor. we HAD tv trays, they were the metal "snap on" type. we used them for various things, from eating to homework, it's how we watched "mutual of omaha's wild kingdom" while cards and "tip-it", WAITING for "walt disney" to come on! those tv trays made it all the way around the house, holding a toaster and coffee pot, to record players and HUGE HEAVY televisions. this is where the story gets good, or at least... well... ok..., the big fat tv was sitting on top of the tv tray and the kid knocked it over. we KNEW he would, we waited for it, and he DID it! once it was all over, we felt bad, half laughing, and half worried, but he was ok, a little red and bumped pretty hard, but he got up CRYING of course, and left the room. my brother and i never got in trouble really, just yelled at with an arm squeeze. it was a sign of the times. those WERE the good ole days! alot of great times with the old tv trays. i don't have any presently, eat on my lap just fine, but i sure would love to have another metal set. it was a set of 5--the 5th being the holder wtih tray snapped to the front. i don't think i can ever recall them sitting as a set (together). love that!
