Strictly ENTERTAINMENT!! What's your take?  

I really wish they offered an 'entertainment' package only - which had the networks, the basic cable fluff stations, premium cable fluff stations, and movie channels. Sorry but I think all the things like CNN and MSNBC and FOX News and other assorted things should come in a separate package and you can buy it if you want it. I don't want it.

i have heard rumors that they are gonna start having it in the future where you get to pick out a lot of the channels yourself.. i like msnbc but i do not watch any other news channel so i could definitely do away with cnn and fox and all their little knock off channels!!

I hate hate hate news channels. It's like those people, stupid **** talking heads who think they are something special are just preening in front of the camera talking about things that make as much sense as a 12 month old trying to read a speech. I do sometimes like to watch local news, but local news is stuff that's happening in my community, maybe even in my town or neighborhood, and I can have some influence if there's a reason to get involved. Global and political crap? I can't do anything there, nobody listens whether I support or complain, so I just don't care. Because I don't care, I don't want to waste my time hearing or seeing it, I'd rather shove it all under the rug.

House is starting tonight, and Fringe is on after it, I am looking forward to 8 o clock, truly. I don't watch a lot of tv during the day because there's nothing on.

See, if I want educational things, I get online. I like some things, like Discovery and TLC, both of those have lots of interesting educational yet still entertaining programs but in reality, my favorite tv things are purely entertaining, thrillers, adventures, comedies, dramas, things that move me. Things that are works of fiction, where they pay excellent writers and fun actors that I like to watch lol.

TV is one of my fantasy outlets, the other one being gaming when I do it. It really would devalue my tv and my time to use it for other purposes.

Yeah, my problem is global news and politics, things that I couldn't influence IN A MILLION YEARS on my own, even if I WANTED to. Why watch it if it's going to make you angry, sad, or something inbetween if there's nothing you can do positively or negatively about it? These people who report it act like they are so self important, as if there's something special about them because they are reporting it. In my opinion they are a bunch of idiots. I'd have more respect for them if they animated a show, wrote a show, or did costumes or backgrounds or sound stages for a show.

LMAO!! Thanks girl, this is exactly the way I feel. TV is my escape, this is why I don't want it splattered with news, politics, real sadness, grief, mourning, war, fighting.... and ugly people. The last part is just poking fun, news people are the folks who wanted to be movie stars and didn't quite make it . I'm not gonna watch them because sorry, they didn't make the grade.

Even if my shows include some of those things, at least it's fiction, and I can just turn it off and remember it was the brainchild of another person who wrote it, it's not like it's going on outside my front door.

Hehe.. why don't you have a tv? I'm not a tv junkie but I would be unhappy if I didn't have one at ALL. Just like possession is 9/10s of the law, as long as you have something to use if/when it strikes your fancy, it's good. Then you don't overuse it, hoard it, or kill people over it.

Well, I guess technically I own one, but there's not enough room in the RV for it so I loaned it to someone else until I get another apartment or something bigger.

You're right. I really need to understand though why some people find things that are clearly and purely UNENTERTAINING.... well... entertaining. Like news. What the heck is even one iota entertaining about it? I can't think of anything except maybe on local news to see how the various anchors are dressed lol. For global news and things such as CNN and things that are like 24/7 news, it's information, sure. I never said it wasn't, but entertaining, like CSI or something that somebody would record to watch on a tivo? Straight information sharing is just not entertaining.

Yeah, I have trouble seeing news as entertainment as well. But as hubby's uncle said to me once when I suggested that he read about whatever news he was watching : "But that wouldn't entertain me as much" SO I guess some people can see it that way. Apparently for him the whole news watching thing is about checking what they're wearing, what their expressions are, if they make mistakes etc. even more than the news themselves. ANd he is entertained by it. Go figure :)
