She put her head down and rubs her nose on the carpet. She does this several times a day. We have taken her to the vet more than once. She now has a scar on her nose. My hubby and I have done everything we can. We have medicine for her, it doesn't seem to work. I feel awful for her. Most recent call to the vet, I was told it is allergies. And that I can give her Children's Benadryl. Have you ever had a dog with this sort of problem?

My brothers dog has always had a problem with his paws itching. He used to bite them raw. His vet recommended Benadryl for the dog. Now if he starts chewing on his paws at all he gets one right away.

you should administer up to 1mg/lb every 8 hours (or 3 times a day -- tid). So if you have a 20lb dog, it's 20mg of diphenhydramine. This is higher than the equivalent dose for humans, but nevertheless seems to be the accepted dose for dogs.

She probably has a cold or allergies. Her nose must itch. Perhaps benadryl will help.

Oh. poor little dog.. No I haven't had a animal that has had allergies before. But I do know how it is to suffer with allergies and can imagine it is worse on a animal since they have no hands or a way to deal with their allergies.

I had a Shelty that would do this and would also chew near his tail raw. We would give him the benedryl as your doctor suggested and bath him with a soothing shampoo. It got so bad that we had to put one of those big plastic hoops around his neck. What I found actually worked on him was when I gave him a bath, at the end I would add some Avon Skin So Soft Oil to the water and rince him with that. It caused any fleas that the bug killing shampoo missed to just hop off of him and it soothed his skin. Only use the original oil formula. The others do not work. (I know from trial and error.)

One of my boys rubs his nose on the carpet when his acid reflux is acting up. He gets a pepcid and a little bread to help with his stomach, and he's fine.
