Bob Barr takes his shot at joining the debate in McCain's absence |
| |
| Well I've got to hand it to him. He knows how to take advantage of the situation. Frankly it pisses me off that he and the other third party candidates are snubbed by these debates and treated as though they don't exist. I think McCain will show up for the debate, but whether he does or doesn't, I want to see Bob Barr in this debate. Take it away, Bob. Your 15 minutes seconds begin... now: With the recent proposal of Senator John McCain to postpone the first presidential debate, it is clear that the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has no authority. "For the past several elections, candidates have used the CPD as an official buffer to keep competition out of the two-party presidential contest," says Libertarian Party presidential nominee Bob Barr. "McCain publicly proved with his announcement what we've been saying all along: The candidates call the shots as to when to debate, where to debate and who to debate." Barr continued, "Given Senator McCain's political stunt to avoid the debate, I ask that Friday's debate moves forward without him, as I am more than willing to step in to participate." http://blog.newsweek.com/... | | | | | |

| | I don't know much about Barr but hey if he wants to debate or talk whatever then let him. My personal opinion on this McCain not showing is just a ploy and he will really show. I don't really like third parties but, if they have a lot of support than they should be able to take part in any event that Democrats and Republicans do. | | | | | | |

| | I think McCain will show as well. The last person to miss a debate was Jimmy Carter and he lost that election when a third party candidate faced Reagan in his stead. I wouldn't go so far as to call McCain's activities a ploy, but clearly he had to do something bold to show where he stood on the economy. As a republican he's stuck inheriting the blame for the current economy and he has to separate himself from what is now known as the "do nothing congress". | | | |

| | I would love to have the third parties included as well. They just have to reach 15% of the national vote, then they are included. | | | | | | |

| | I don't know about that. Ross Perot had 19% in the '92 election and was still barred from the debates in '96. | | | |

| | I think for the most part, third party candidates don't exist. How much advertisement do you see for them? They don't put themselves out for us to know anything about them. I know there are many people claiming to be Libertarians, but do they support their candidate financially? They need to start doing more than just putting their names on the ballet. They need to start promoting themselves and their ideas with radio and television adds, travel the country having town hall meetings, and try to get on the news (local and national). Do something! | | | | | | |

| | I agree that they definitely don't advertise enough. At the same time, advertising costs a lot of money and they don't have large organizations throwing money at them like the republicans and democrats. I agree that the people who claim to be libertarians and such should be supporting their candidates financially if they want to see them get more attention. I just don't like the way the media is running our elections. If the media hadn't made Obama a star, nobody would know who he was. He'd just be the Alan Keyes of the democrats. | | | |

| | Obama is a liberal and the media always supports the liberal candidates. I don't like it either. I think they should be neutral when reporting the news but they are not. | | | |

| | I think the wider the discussion and debate the better.. the choices otherwise stay too narrow! | | | | | | |
