How do you teach a child to blow their own nose?

My daughter is just now starting to get
some allergy related sniffles.
And, she hasn't yet mastered the technique
of handling the nose blowing part by herself.
I have no clue how to help her.
And, my advice so far has not worked.
Of course, I can handle the job FOR her.
But, I'm trying to teach her to be independent
so that she can blow her own nose.
I'm sure there's a technique.
How do you teach a child to blow their own nose.

Have you tried telling her to breathe in her mouth and out her nose? I'm not sure if it will work, but it just might.

I'm going to try that idea.
She's never really had to deal with
the situation before.
Not too many sniffles, cause we live
in a warm climate.
I think it's just dust mite or cat allergies.
Or, could be ragweed. Someone was mowing their
lawn next door and that always stirs up the allergens.
I have those too on occasion.

It's real easy for allergens to stir up, my fiance has it the worst of all, I thought I was bad, but he's worse with allergies. I hope that you find a way to teach your daughter to blow her nose though! I do like what the responder said about saline!
Good Luck!

Thank you very much!
Yes, I loved her idea too and yours.
I've got such helpful advice today.
I almost didn't post this question.
But, then I thought, why not?
It's a situation we haven't had to deal
with so far.
But everything in it's day!
Thanks again for the helpful tips.
Have a pleasant evening.

Hello dear beauty queen. Let me try to express myself about how I taught my son to blow his nose by himself when he was young. I pressed one side of his nose and asked him to just feel free to blow hard. After a few times, he could manage it by himself. I wish your little daughter to learn about it soon. Thank you for the discussion and take care.

My older son had the same problem and didn't know how to blow his nose till he was 3. I would try telling him but he just couldn't do it. He would blow in or blow out of his mouth.....till I told him to close his mouth and then blow.
I am lucky with my second and at 22 months he can blow his nose...and cleans it himself.

I don't know because I'm not a parent, I can just tell you what my parents did when my sister and I were little. They would hold the kleenex and tell us to blow. Eventually we just caught on that we held the kleenex over our noses the way they did (we could feel how they used their fingers) and we just figured it out on our own, at around 2 or 3 years old, perhaps younger.

My son knows how to blow his nose but he will not. So I have to use nose saline and spray it up each nostril 2-3 times each then I twist a piece of tissue to a long skinny point then twist it around in his nose a little bit and when I bring it out it's pretty yucky, but his nose is really clean and not as congested after I clean his nose using this method. I usually follow up with a few squirts of nasal decongestant spray after the cleaning. If you can't get your daughter to blow her nose try the method I mentioned above if she's congested until she learns to blow her nose..I think because of my son's autism he has strange phobias about things, like blowing his nose, it scares him for some reason. I know if you don't get that congestion out of a small child's head it can turn into a infection, but if it's just the allergy sniffles any childrens allergy medicine should do the trick to fix a runny nose.

Thank you very much for the
fantastic answer!
I had not considered doing that.
She is doing her best, but sometimes
she falls behind on the little things.
Thanks again.
Be well.
Have a blessed day.

I bet its hard trying to teach and describe to children how to blow through their noses. There is no easy technique to it is there!! I wouldn't know where to start to explain to a child how to blow their noses. Hope your daughter is able to master the technique of nose blowing!!
