Do You Consider Yourself A Great Cook.

I have never been a good cook, I can do the basic, I have family members that are great cooks, they cook a great big holiday meal like Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
For some people cooking just comes natural. I do enough to get by. At one time in my life I wished I could cook like that but now it doesn't really matter.
On these holiday dinners I always take a dish nothing extravagant just something to get by and not be a moocher. I would rather contribute money than to cook.
Are you a good Cook?
Can you throw a big Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimming?

I do Thanksgiving at my house every year. Thats not really a good example of my cooking skills though, bcz everything is made from old family recipes. I was not a good cook up until about 4 years ago. At that time I became a stay-at-home-mom for the first time ever, discovered there was nothing on daytime TV and started tuning into food network. I found that just watching them and learning the basic cooking techniques taught me so much. Now I actually enjoy cooking and can throw almost any meal together w/o a recipe.

Hi Chevee. Yes, I am a good cook. I come from a line of
great cooks. My great grandmother, grandmother and mother
all were great cooks. I spent alot of time watching them
all cook. I never thought that I would be able to come
close to any of them until I decided to try out some of
the dishes that they cooked and to my amazement I did learn
how to cook! I guess all those years of watching did pay
off! I have made some of the Hungarian dishes that
Grandmother used to make and they actually tasted just
like hers did. She would have been so proud! I make a
full Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with all the
even when it is just me and my neighbor! I just love
to cook! I guess it's just in my blood! I will say that
the older I get the less I want to fuss, but I still do
try to cook, but not as often.

Hi Chevee,
I am a good cook.I used to be able to cook for large crowds and have lots of compliments. My Mom taught me how to cook. There are nine of us kids so she had to be very creative and my twin and I became creative and learned to love to cook. I often wish that I had culinary skills, but that's a great commitment and at this time in my life, not gonna happen. I love to watch the food channel and pick up little tips along the way. With my health issues. I try to keep things as simple as possible.

Hi Chevee,
Oh yes, I have done all that turkey and all the trimmings for Christmas and duck for the New Year. I do cooking all the time everyday for my husband and sometimes it gets tedious and wish I can get a break from cooking, my husband won't cook although he promise me he is going to cook pork chops in a few days time, I won't hold my breath. I learned my cooking skills from my mother when I just used to watch her as she cooked but I still can't cook like my mother, she was the best cook ever.

Yep, I'm proud to say I'm a very good cook. But it took years to get there. When I first got married way back in 1978 I didn't know how to cook. Mom had tried to teach me but I wasn't interested. It wasn't until I was married and living in a new town (without mom and her kitchen) that I learned the importance of it. So, I started off with easy things first and expanded on that. There were still mistakes along the way. I remember my first Thanksgiving dinner where we invited friends. I'd cooked it all, decorated the house and we sat down to carve the bird. And we promptly cut into the bag of "parts" that I had forgotten to remove from inside. LOL I was embaressed, but hey, at least it was all cooked. Now I have no problems cooking pretty much anything I want. And, its now my son who is learning to cook for his family. Now he is the one calling me for advice on things he is trying to cook. :)

LOL Yea, I'm still not perfect. Just last year I didn't realize until AFTER I'd baked the pumpkin pies that I had forgotten to add the sugar. Thats what I got for trying to do too many things at once. So I had to frantically rush out and buy extra supplies and bake new pies. Luckily I discovered it before we sat down to serve them.

No, never. I am bad a cooking and I know that I cannot cook. The best dishes I can make was the instant noodle. I just need to boil it for certain time and use all the seasoning in the packaging and finish it in minutes. The best dessert I can make was the instant Jello. I just have to put them in the pot with small fire until it boiled and finished it in minutes. I think I am good at boiling instant meal.
But I would really like to learn. At least I want to be able to cook for people that I love. I really want to do that. I really want to be able to prepare meal for my family and let them eat properly.
So far I always order delivery at home, but I know that homemade food is always the best and the healthiest.

My husband and some of those friends of mine told me i am a good cook. But honestly i dont think i am. I just happen to know how to mix the right spices to make the dish palatable. I am not good on garnishing the food ,i cook food that are not too complicated. I also sometimes failed to meet the right taste i want on some of the food i prepare. But it doesnt stop me from learning new things about cooking and finding new recipe. I think to be a good cook all you need is practice. I still practice even if i know some dishes. I can throw a big thanksgiving dinner by just looking at interesting recipe online and follow the direction carefully. So far i have not failed yet in following directions and most of the time i also estimate the amount of spices and other ingredients that i know will make the dish appetizing to eat.

Ic onsider myself a great cook based from the comments of my friends whenever i let them taste it. but i haven't tried cooking for a big event. guess that would be really exhausting if you're the only one to do that but it will be all worth it :) *wink*

i dont think im a great cook, but i do think im a "pretty good" cook lol! ive never made anything that my family didnt like, thankfully.
i can do a thanksgiving/xmas dinner with all the trimmings. a lot ppl make it out to be a huge "master skill required" endeavor, but its mostly about timing.
having everything done at a set time without dishes being cold or having to wait for something to finish cooking, can get maddening sometimes.

I don't think I am a great cook, but am a good cook. Have done Thanksgiving for friends and family in the past, when I had a bigger kitchen. Now mine is so small it is no longer fun to cook anything elaborate. :-( But I still enjoy cooking, when I can.

I knew how to cook but I did not consider myself as a great Cook. I only knew how to cook some simple dishes and never want to explore more in it.

Yea i am officially not a good cook either. My suggestion, go get one of those 4-ingredient cook books from barnes and knobles. It helps to learn the simple things but good things then you could maybe get better over time. I got one and we use it here and there if i HAVE to cook. Usually my wife does the cooking so it's not so bad but just sometimes she makes me woop up something and it is usually not that good unless i use the cookbook. Give it a try.

Hi Chevee,
I enjoy cooking because I enjoy eating good food. I think I am a good cook and I have done large holiday meals. Putting togather a large holiday meal take good planning. Do ahead of time what can be done ahead and keep it simple. Don't try to do every thing at once. It's to easy to lose control and your drive yourself crazy. In the end, if the food is good and you enjoy eating it, than your a good cook a well.
