Who knew cats can get bad colds as well.

My cat has had some ongoing problems that got a lot worse a few days ago. He's a young cat, but was having hair loss problems, and a few days ago he lost his voice. I wasn't too concerned with the hair loss because I know we have fleas and I was sure that was the cause of it, but the loss of his voice really scared me. As it turns out... fleas are the problem for his hair loss, so I got him some more medicine to treat the fleas. The loss of his voice was due to a cold! I couldn't believe it. I mean I knew cats got the sniffles sometimes and all that, but I'd never known of a cat to lose his voice due to a cold! He's doing much better now and getting back to being his loud mouth self!

I'm glad his hair loss problem is cured. Losing hair because of flea irritation must be horrendous! I only have to think about head lice and I start to itch, so the thought of having fleas like that is terrible. They multiply so quickly though that I'm keeping a very close eye on my cats just now. I've never experienced a cat who lost his voice! That's really strange. One of my cats often behaves as if she has a feather stuck in her throat, but I've never heard of losing the voice. I know you do need to be careful if your cat gets a sniffle type cold though, as it can be the first sign of cat flu which can be fatal and it's really contagious if you have more than one cat.

Poor baby! About a year ago, my cat lost his voice too. I wish I'd known it was a cold. I thought he was dying. He had trouble going to pee in his box and he lost weight and spit up clear liquid. He couldn't chew either. I should have taken him to the vet. But at the same time, my daughter had a horrible virus that made her sick to her stomach constantly, so I was more worried about her at the time. The cat is better now. He got over it. Best of luck with your cat.
