| Legally ABANDON your kid up to the age of EIGHTEEN in Nebraska!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27082225/ bad wording leaves the law legally allowing parents to drop off kids up to the age of 18!! could you imagine being a teen ager and your parents telling you "ah we're tired of you.. get out.." etc?? there was a 14 year old that wasnt even from nebraska but they crossed the line to drop her!! this is horrible!! babies i can see but these kids could walk home and then what?? the horrible economy will just make this all more common.. sigh.. | | | | | |

| | I would certainly hope that the parents who do this are REALLY having a hard time taking proper care of these children. I can't even imagine what those poor children feel. It's a terrible, terrible thing. There are other resources out there to help parents who are having a hard time. They need to make sure that information about those other services is out there where parents can see it. Maybe that would help prevent some of this. You are right though, with the economy the way it is right now it makes it much more likely that things like that will happen. | | | | | | |

| | I just can't believe this! How can someone do that? I don't care how bad the economy is, how can you just leave your kid somewhere? This isn't just putting a baby up for adoption. Then take the time to drive there to drop her is just....I don't even know. Words can't express how upsetting this is to me. Poor kids! | | | | | | |

| | Wow, I never knew that the law is able to allow people to abandon their child. I mean, they even allow it in the first place is something I cannot imagine. Why would a state allow a parent or guardian to abandon a child in the first place? Isn't it the responsibility of the parent to look after the child? IN the event a child is abandon, under this law, will the relevant authorities spend time to look for the child's parents or guardians? Who is going to care for the abandon child? Sigh... it is sad isn't it? | | | | | | |

| | And then it will become the state's problem. And the state will have to foot the bill. And where does this money come from? The tax payers. And when taxes go up, the poor cannot afford it, what they do? They abandone their child in states that allow it. It is a vicious cycle! | | | |

| | I can see why some parents would be tempted - sometimes the support isn't there for them and they can't cope. Of course, in other cases the kid is probably better off without the kind of parent that puts themselves first all the time - there have been plenty of "home alone" cases where the parent(s) have gone on holiday or out partying and abandoned their kids for days or even weeks. I reckon the few that make the media are the tip of the iceberg and that there are a lot of neglected kids with selfish idiots for parents. | | | | | | |

| | Just saw another kid was dropped off. I think he was thirteen and the parents drove him all the way from Michigan. They need to change that law pretty quick. | | | |

| | That is just awful! I could never imagine doing that to my child! That is just so wrong. I would hope that people would not abuse this. I can understand if it's an extreme situation and they absolutly could not take care of a child or had a serious issue health/mental but it just seems so extreme and harsh! I feel sorry for alot of children these days! | | | | | | |
