Do you ever walk into a room and forget why you're there?

This really happened to me tonight.
I went into the kitchen to get something out of the fridge,
forgot what it was; then stepped out of the
kitchen and that's when the idea popped into my head.
So, I spun around, literally on my heels
and went back into the kitchen to get what I'd
originally gone in there for.
Thinking about it now, I can't remember why
I went into the kitchen.
Has that ever happened to you?
You go into a room and then forget why you're there
and then later remember?
Do you take temporary amnesia as a clear sign
of getting older?
Or, possibly (and the theory I'm going for) alien abduction?

But I can still blame the dust bunnies
on government conspiracies, right?

Are we talking about the dust bunnies
that were abducted by aliens and who
are now bearing their evil spawn?

This happens to me a lot. I think it is an age thing and that we tend to forget things more easily when we are older. Or our minds are on something else and we seem to have shorter memory spans than when we are younger. I shouldn't be speaking in the we catagory, because maybe it is just me, not we. But I think you are also older and may have a memory problem too. hehe
I don't get upset with myself anymore when I forget things, but I used to. I used to fight the feelings of forgetfullness but now I just accept it. It is all part of growing older and the only other alternative is to not get old which means not to live, as we all get old if we are lucky.

It happens to me quite often, especially when I have so many things in mind. So I retrace my steps, enter the previous room to try to recall. It usually comes back to me if I do that quick enough. Am I getting older? All of us are, anyway.

I should tape a note to my forehead
before leaving the room, with clear
instructions on what I was going for
and even my home address just in case
I wonder out into the front yard
and get lost.

I happens with me most of the times!!
I don't know why I just forget what I was about to do.
A short term memory loss.
But I don't think its that serious, its just my carelessness towards things.
Yesterday I went to to my bed room to get my glasses(spectacles) and I when I came out and sat in my sofa in drawing room I found that I was holding a comb..!!
What the... I went there to get my glasses not comb.
(though some deep down in my mind I did want to get my hairs combed)
I think this happens with me because I have more than one things going on in my mind.

What was the question again? We live in a complex society and you probably had 25 different thoughts between rooms, it is only natural to forget.

LOL. it happened to me so many times, especially if I will get something into my room, or in the other room. I was like..
.. then, when I'll go back into my previous place, I will just laugh and say.. "ahhh! I am going to get __!"..
something like that. just like you, I am so forgetful. that is why sometimes, whenever I'll get some things, I do have a note in my hand, so that I wouldn't forget what I need to do.

Oh I do this all the time, I do not think that it is anything to worry about just one of those things. What I find even more annoying is either going in the room for one thing and coming out with something else and forgetting the original thing I went in for. Or going in a room for something, forgetting what it is, going back into the other room, sitting down and then I will remember and have to get back up again!!

This is a common phenomena to me.i always tend to forget things im supposed to do.I have read in an article that this is a common thing with women. This is because women tends to multi-task.Doing this our attention is splitted, thus the brain find it hard to retain what things are needed to be done.It suggested that we should focus on a certain activity first and avoid multi tasking to avoid low memort retention.

Yes. I have similar experience. It happened few times. Before I went to a room, if I get interrupted by some conversation or get attracted by other things, I'll still remember to walk back to the room. But when I reached the door, I couldn't recall what I suppose to do in there. I need to continue doing other things and mostly I could remember later.

It happens to me especially in the office. whenver w=one of my supervisor calls me and then the other calls me at the same time I forget and then say why am I in here again? I have antoerh absentmindedness. Many times I am
signing off on a document or writing my name in class and actually forget my name and even how to spell it.
It may be a sign of getting odler but boy I have been having these attacks ever since I can remember. I even go in the bathroom to bath and forget why I went in and my daughter finds it very funny all the time. She says I am an old woman, I tend to agree with her (smile).

A humorous theory I once heard postulated (tongue in cheek) that thoughts were little ethereal objects. They could fall right out of your ear on the way to do something important. You won't ever be able to remember what it was unless you retrace your path. Going back the way you came, you might "bump into" the thought that fell out of your head and suddenly remember again why you went to the other room.

Well I am only 18 and I do this a fair few times a week, so I hope it's not a sign of aging just yet!
I think everyone does it, when we have other things on our minds especially.
I don't think it's much to worry about unless, obviously, it happens every time you walk into a room.

I like your theory of the alien abduction. I keep them busy abducting me. LOL
It happens to me more than I care to talk about. And also I hate getting in mid conversation and completely forgetting what you were saying and stumbling around in the conversation, hoping it will pop back into your mind, which thankfully it usually does after I've blubbered on and on for five minutes! LOL Makes me wonder just what these aliens are up to!
