Do you always go for the underdog or have you gone with the big bad wolf? |
| |
| I always fancy myself as the "rooter" of all underdogs. Who doesn't want the "Davids" in this world to defeat the Goliaths? But months ago, I read in the news that a local shopping center here has been trying to evict a local eatery from its location. At first, I was indignant! All these money-starving sharks don't care about the small and local businesses. Then I found out that they want to put Cheesecake Factory (http://www.cheesecakefactory.com/) in its place. And that indignation was forgotten instantly and completely. I love Cheesecake Factory and I know it will make me very happy if they're just around the corner. Today, I read in the news again that the local eatery and the shopping center property management have come to an agreement. The eatery still gets to stay but at a different location in the shopping center and the management will pay them a big amount too. So I'm no longer feeling guilty for feeling happy over their ouster. What about you? | | | | | |

| | Usually I root for the underdog, but always I root for cheesecake. However, I am absolutely smitten by the cheesecake they sell "seasonally" at Sam's Club which is Italian Mascarpone Lemon and maybe that is all redundant, but it is just YUMS. The cakes a huge, so wehn we bring one home I put most of it in the freezer, all portion controlled. I think I'll have a wee slice tonight :-) | | | | | | |

| | We don't have Sam's Club here and I don't know if it's called differently here but I'm happy to have reminded you (in my little way) to have that wee slice of yummy Italian Mascarpone Lemon. If only I could grab into the computer and have some too. Was it good and satisfying, drannhh? | | | |

| | The name Lemon cheesecake would probably do, but the one we get is light like a cloud in texture but ever so rich and we rarely have a whole slice--usually hubby and I split a small one and I eat mine with a glass of ice cold milk. I wish I could send you a serving in my comment here! | | | |

| | Cling on to that iron will, mjmlagat. A lot of people would like to have it too to beat the odds. And yes, isn't it nice when both sides get what they want? They still have a few months to close in on the deal so I'm hoping everything works out and nothing will make it fall apart. Because I want to sit in that Cheesecake Factory booth and enjoy my food without feeling guilty. Heheh. | | | |

| | Everyone has rights, fjaril! Only that in a lot of cases, the rights of those who are richer, more superior, more powerful and more predominant tend to trample those of the "lesser beings". I haven't gotten my cheesecake (place) just yet but I'll be there as soon as they open. Woohoo!!! | | | |

| | Actually, it really depends on the situation. Usually, I am for what people want. that is the law of supply and demand. If a big chain is more popular that the little shop around the corner, there is nothing you can do anyway, it has to be the big chain because that is the most popular, that is why people want. Now, it happens that I am against it when it jeopardizes a downtown for exemple. I live in a little town where ther is a small but lively downtown with little shops and restaurants. One day, they wanted to put in the middle a big clothing chain. Many people wer against it and I was too, although I knew that this chain was popular and probably would do well here. but then, it is an open door to others and the charm and ambiance of our downtown might have been threatened. | | | | | | |

| | Hello, frenchmom. A lot of downtowns "die" because of these big chains even if they are located at the end of the city. But who am I to judge? I like going to Target but try not to step foot on a Walmart (but have a few times). I mean, there really is no difference between the two. But I do love the charm and ambiance of the downtown area. I like to go to towns and just walk it. | | | |

| | Hey anne! I'm glad that you agree with the final outcome! As long as you get the Cheesecake Factory it's ok with you if they push out whatever place was there to get it! Nice that you are so fickle!lol! That's funny! As soon as you heard what restaurant they were going to put in there you didn't care what happened to the place they were kicking out! I don't blame you either. Cheesecake Factory rules! They are a bit expensive, but they can surely beat out whoever and whatever are there and even if they are giving them another place to be they should just keep the money and move somewhere else far away because they won't have a chance! Although, if the wait time is like the one here then the overflow of people who are starving to death and can't wait might just be hungry enough to go to their place just so they don't pass out from the long wait! | | | | | | |

| | Hello there, Opal. The outcome isn't so final yet. I think and I hope everything will get ironed out by January and I hope Cheesecake Factory will be here soon. I looOove Cheesecake Factory. The nearest one is about 30-45 minutes away but it is worth it. Yes, it always gets busy there and the wait is loooOOoong during weekends. We try to go there earlier on those days or go for lunch. I always have the Tex Mex egg rolls, Pasta Da Vinci, Tiramisu Cheesecake and the Frozen Iced Mango drink. And I love love love their "free" brown bread! | | | |

| | Yank that baby outta there!!! That poor baby!!! I actually thought about waiting for them to open here and try to get a job there but it's still not for sure. I always think it would be fun and very advantageous (to me!) to work there. But I am sure they need my weekends to be available and my other job needs those too. I always make people laugh at dinner when I take away the plates and ask "So did everyone save room for dessert?". How's that sound, zig? | | | |

| | It does not surprise me at all that you were one of them! I would have never worked at a place where I had to divvy up my tips with all the other servers though!!! Giving the bartender and the 'busboy' a hefty chunk made good sense, but other servers??? I don't think so!!! It was my winning personality and excellent service that got me such good tips, therefore they belong in my pocket, not anyone else's!!! | | | |

| | Well, there were some times I didn't dip into the jar. I guess a lot of diners now are more aware that tips are divvied up among people besides the server. Hopefully, that makes them give a lot more but usually they (or we) stay with just the usual 15-20 percent of the bill. | | | |
