John McCain fund raising? |
| |
| I have read the account of John McCain supposedly asking Russia to donate funds to his campaign, and I am convinced it is pure rubbish. For one thing, it is against the law for candidates to recieve campaign fund s from foreign donators, isn't it? Also, Russia is somewhat pi$$ed because McCain took a strong stand against them when they invaded Georgia. The letter McCain wrote to the Russian ambassador in no way indicates to me that he is soliciting funds, only that he is reaching out for diplomatic purposes to promote good relations between Russia and the USA. What are your thoughts on this controversy? http://www.newsmax.com/in... | | | | | |

| | You're right. After I reread the article I realized it was a mistake instead of an intentional diplomatic effort. It is kinda funny. Hopefully people will realize it was an error. | | | |

| | It is illegal to take donations from foreign nationalists. He can accept donations from Americans who are living in another country. At least I'm pretty sure that's what I read the other day. | | | | | | |

| | I have read it too. That's why it is ludicrous to think McCain would approach Russia soliciting funds, and after the tough stance he took against them when they invaded Georgia. It was a clerical error, nothing more. | | | |

| | You are correct. He can't take money from foreigners. At least not legally. | | | | | | |

| | U.S. citizens living in foreign countries can donate, but not foreign citizens. | | | |

| | But as far as I know, foreign funds did not make their way into McCain's campaign. Same can not be said for 0bama. | | | | | | |

| | I thought the same thing when I first heard that story. But I also think Obama takes cues of how to conduct his campaign from John McCain. If Obama is accused of something, the liberals find a way to accuse McCain of the same thing. If McCain has a soldier's bracelet, Obama has to claim one, too, etc., etc., ( He did have a soldier's bracelet, but I doubt he would have brought it up if McCain hadn't --he had been asked by the soldier's mother not to.) | | | |

| | Yeah and Obama had to look down at the bracelet like he didn't know the name on it. | | | |

| | Good point. 0bama wants to be the leader of the country, yet he plays follower to McCain's lead. Tells us what we want to know. McCain is the real leader. | | | |

| | I guess I shouldn't have registered as a republican in the last election. I've been getting calls from their automated system and emails asking for donations for the McCain campaign. I think this is a little much, I saw on the news that those calls are going out constantly over the entire U.S. After what I've seen and read, I won't be voting for McCain. He really did me in when he (or the republican party) picked that dimwit for a running mate. I'll be voting for Obama, it would be a tragedy for all americans if she inherited the white house. | | | |

| | Okay, please, give us some links to "dumb things" Sarah Palin has said or done. So far, everything I looked into to get all the facts made her look pretty smart. | | | |

| | Why would John McCain who was a prisoner in North Vietnam who was at that time allied with Communist Russia want Russia to donate money to his campaign or even accept it? That is ridiculous. Diplomacy is a good reason to write to the ambassador, but not to get any money. | | | | | | |

| | If anyone wants an example of Russia interfering by co-operation with a presidential candidate, they need to check into James Earl Carter, who in fact conspired with the USSR to try to defeat Reagan. Documented fact that was uncovered only a few years ago. McCain's hands are clean on this as are the Republican party's. Democrats? That's another case. | | | |
