I need voice activated typing software  

If no one can help you here, I will check with my sources. My friend worked with a man who was an HR manager. They called his program "Jaws" but I do not know if that was the real name or if it was just a joke, or pet name. I will read the rest of your discussions. I guess you can search for "Jaws" software and see what comes up. Otherwise, it may be a day or two before I get in touch with the two people who might know about it.

Windows Vista Ultimate have a featured program called SPEECH RECOGNITION. You can use your voice to work with windows and programs. Usually you can just say the command that you want to perform. For example, to minimize all open windows, you can just simply say "Show Desktop". To see the system properties dialog box, you can say "Right-click Computer", and then say "Click Properties".


You can also use it in Microsoft Office Word.

Looks like jaws is a reader. I do not know if it will type if you talk to it or not. It comes up with a search on Google, though, so perhaps that gives you another option than "dragon", just so you can compare products.

If you're using Windows Vista, just setup Speech Recognition. Go to start>all programs>accessories>ease of access>speech recognition. I think this is your best bet because you don't have to setup an external software. It will immediately work with native Windows programs like Office2007 and notepad.

Well I'll be you learn something new every day. I had no idea there was such a thing but it's a terrific idea for handicaped people who don't have the use of their arms and fingers. From what I understand, this is the best in the industry so far.

It costs a small bomb though.

I bought an early version of Dragon Naturally speaking for my wife, about 6 or 7 years ago. On that pc it was a bit slow, and quite a number of words were spelled wrong. This was using Windows ME. I've since upgraded to a new pc, and haven't bothered to put it on this pc. I understand that later editions with a faster pc is much more reliable.

There are also inexpensive typing courses available for pc's which may be better in the long run (Mavis Beaton is one I got for my wife).
