I'd eat a purple tomato. I don't know why in the world scientists would want to waste their time and other people's money to develop new colors of tomatoes, but I wouldn't care about the color. But if I eat it and I turn purple, I'm going to sue, you can bet on that.

I will definitely eat purple tomatoes despite of its color if the benefits is so much. It has the power to fight cancer and can make the life span longer, so I should eat it as often as I can. Can it be purchased easily or is it a controlled item which can only be bought in certain places?
Does it taste the same like ordinary tomatoes? I could now imagine eating purple spaghetti instead of red spaghetti we used to eat. I just can't wait to have it here in my country, though. As soon as it reach my country I would definitely buy it to have a taste and I will use it often if the price is not very expensive.

I dont think it can be any worse then any of the other things that we are eating. I would like to know how many people have eaten them? I would have to think about it for awhile. @ShepherdSpy (8544)

Sounds too much like overthinking the problem and getting a result way outside the box to Me.. Wouldn't educating people towards eating more antioxidants in their diet work better than creating new breeds of fruits and veggies with boosted levels? Can these GM crops reproduce naturally,or do they need human intervention? Personally,I like my tomatoes in red..maybe we could get used to purple!-but do we need to?

Whenever we go shopping around blueberry season time, my husband says don't buy them because they are too expensive. So the only way I can get them is either if I buy them myself (he makes most of the money) or I get them in blueberry yogurt. Only the yogurt with berries has too much sugar and additives and the other yogurt is fixed berries and it has Splendea in it. Since I am be a diabetic, I have to have the fresh fruit, so if I had to I would eat it, but I prefer the Roma tomatoes.

I doubt that I would be able to bring myself to eat a purple tomato, even on anything. You may be able to sneak it by if it was cooked in something. But I wasn't even on the concept when they came out with the green ketchup. I just couldn't get my mind past the thought of the ketchup being green. I don't know why these scientists waste their time and good money on these experiments. What are we supposed to do with a purple tomato? How does the tomato being purple help anybody?

Hi cher913. Thanks for directing us to this very interesting article about the development of the purple tomato. No, I would not think it too weird to eat a purple tomato. I guess I got over my hesitance to eat the orange/yellow tomatoes and have found them to taste just as good as the red ones. I love all kinds of tomatoes so I will look forward to tasting a purple one.
I just don't normally purchase blackberries, blueberries, or cranberries, so I don't have the advantage of those high antioxidant foods. But I eat tomatoes almost daily, so these new tomatoes would be a great addition to my diet.

I would so not eat a purple tomato. Well, I wouldn't eat a red one either but especially a purple one. They came out with Heinz ketchup in green and purple a couple years ago and while I wanted to get some for my daughter, I just couldn't bring myself to buy it. I had no idea how they got it to be that color and if I was just going to be feeding her a bunch of dyes, so I opted not to get it. Just plain old red for me. I am a very visual person, if it is weird, chances are I won't eat it.
