This was beggar's night, and I treated some scared children...

In the United States, this was beggar's night when kids go door to door and beg for treats. Well, they don't really beg, they just say "Trick or Treat!" and you give them candy or some other nice thing. I had a group of kids, all under 12, that came after about 7 people that were traveling down the sidewalk. The 7 people were all over 16, a couple looked like adults over 21. One girl and one guy both about 20 were arguing and the girl was screaming as she went past my house "You gonna disrespect me?!" and the guy was yelling "You want me to hit you, *itch?!" And the poor little kids came up for a treat and one girl said "I'm scared, those people are scary!" I invited the girl to sit next to me on the steps, the whole group of 5 sat down. I told them that the people that were making such a scene didn't care that the whole world knew what was going on in their lives, that they had never learned to control themselves, and that if they would think about things instead of just reacting they would have a better time. These few kids sitting on my steps seized upon the "whole world knowing their lives" and said they would be mortified. I hope they picked up on my emphasis on not yelling at people, especially in public, and on my comment that words can't hurt and there's no need to get physical. I'm sorry that this happened on such a fun night but teens will do that, they feel that the whole world should pay attention to them! Scaring young children should be seen as fun or reputation-making!

Holy crap, change the colors on your page so that people can read it!!! Sorry, I wanted to know where you were from and I just about jumped out of my pajamas! Kids are special, they're impressionable and should not be exposed at this age to brawling in the streets. A cop car went by shortly afterwards when they where about a hundred feet up the street but I guess they'll only stop if they see physical altercations. Dumb cops--their windows were up, how could they hear any trouble?!

The people who were shouting their mouths off in the street sound like they were so wrapped up in their own affairs that they probably didn't even notice the children passing along behind. That's not much of a way to live. Good on you for spending some time with those kids and giving them a message to remember.

People have no self control anymore. I remember when it was shameful to fight in public but that's an era that's gone now, unfortunately.

It's great that you were there for those kids...some ppl just don't know how to behave out in public...not to mention I'd never put up with anyone calling me a b*tch! I would have refused to hand out candy to ppl that looked 21...that's just insane to go trick or treating at that age. ~~MY OWN PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF**

Oh, I give candy to everybody! I had older kids and even a couple of adults come up and I happily gave them candy. Everyone deserves candy on Halloween! I had biscuits for the canine trick or treaters, too! I last trick or treated with my kids when I was 42!

It makes NO sense to me! Friday-today-is Halloween and the kids could be out late and have some fun then sleep in on Saturday. Instead, we have it on Thursday! I'm sure the teachers will have a horrid time today dealing with candy-eating kids!

I dont understand what those people were trying to do scaring the kids away. But what i know is that you taught the kids a lesson in life that everything needs to be in controled measures.

Self-control is sadly lacking in my country. The most loving thing I ever did for my kids was teach them to control themselves!

Halloween is tomorrow night! That's really too bad that the children were being exposed to that nonsense, it's ridiculous how ignorant people are. Well, have a good rest of the night!

I had a great night, thanks! I could never understand why people take their domestic disagreements to the street.
