McCain is traveling to Chicago today to meet with President Elect Obama. What do you think the visit is about? Do you think McCain is going to be offered a position in Obama's cabnet?

No, it's very unlikely that he'll be offered a position in the Obama cabinet. After all the talk of change and how McCain = Bush, it wouldn't make any sense. I realize that his cabinet doesn't look like much change with all the Clinton people in it, but I think the point it that Obama wants a change from the Bush admin.

But if the people would have wanted a "clinton" cabinet, they could have just voted for hilary. I think they wanted "change" from both of those presidents. But it does not look like we are going to get it

I agree, the people didn't want Clinton as president, but I think the point is that Obama has seen the success of the Clinton administration, especially in the economy, and realizes that he needs their experience to be a proponent of the changes he has promised.

But he said during the primary that he was not going to be married to lobbyist the way the clintons and their people are. There would no place for them in his administration. yet those same people that he said that about are now in his transition team and getting jobs at the white house.

I do not think McCain will be offered a position in Obama's cabinet. I think it is more of an effort to get McCain to support Obama's agenda.

Basically a pep talk on how to "play ball". Meaning do what we want or else.

I highly doubt that approach is going to work with McCain - or with many of the other current Senators (of either party).

Nah, very doubtful. It's more likely an attempt to show cooperation between the parties. A "bury the hatchet", lets just all get along nicely, type of show. Obama could benefit from McCain's wealth of experience but it's unlikely he'll tap into this resource other than to get the Republicans to cooperate with whatever Obama has planned for our future. I'm sure that'll be a discussion point. After all McCain is known to work with both sides of the aisle. But I'm sure there'll also be the message to get his (McCain's) people in line to get things done and Obama plans pushed through especially right now in regard to the bailout of the automakers which is going to be discussed in Washington today.

It could be a "lets all get along and go with my plan" thing. He does need some republican support to get things done AND still look bipartisan.

The differences between McCain's campaign platform and Obama's were actually pretty small to begin with - as is usual during political campaigns, the differences got inflated and the similarities essentially ignored. I doubt that there's a Cabinet post in the offering for McCain, but a lot of people are speculating that this is more than a "bury the hatchet" meeting, since both Lindsay Graham and Rahm Emmanuel are included in the meeting. I do believe that Obama is sincere about wanting to set aside partisan politics in order to get the best people and the best ideas on all sides of the aisle. I did hear a rather interesting speculation about one of the possible points of discussion for today's meeting. One of the political commentators speculated that Obama just may ask McCain's input and advice on people to consider for political appointments from the Republican side of the aisle since he is well known for working between the parties to garner support for issues. If so, it would be an excellent use of McCain's strengths and knowledge.

That would be interesting. I will watch and see how much McCain is used to help put this cabinet together.
