Have a Politically Correct Christmas! |
|
Do you really think that people of others faiths are offended if a store hangs up a sign that says Merry Christmas? Or if they have Christmas Trees? I personally would not be offended if someone had something that said Happy Hannauka. So are they less open minded than I am or are we as a society just too afraid that we may inadvertantly offend someone? Just wondering your thought. Happy Everything!

1. Wizzywig (2780) | 1 year ago | I dont think people of other faiths are offended by Christmas decorations etc. I think its just the ramblings of some group of politically correct do-gooders - who are in fact, not doing good but doing harm by promoting rifts between faiths by suggesting that offence may be caused.

Others feel that everyone should just say Happy Holidays and only have signs in the store that say the same thing but I feel that is just uncalled for. For awhile I was getting so fed up on trying to remember who celebrated what that I was saying Merry Winter and Happy Cold Month.

razcal2267 (9492) | 1 year ago | LOL go for it. We all (at least around here) celebrate it or have to deal with it so I think it is rather fitting

owlwings (5194) | 1 year ago | Let's just wish people "Peace and Light!" (or does that make us sound like hippies?)

3. owlwings (5194) | 1 year ago | Happy Christmas/Hannukah/Diwali to you ... they are all, in essence, festivals of light and love. Why should we not all celebrate them in brotherhood? (It would extend the holiday season quite a bit, LOL!)
I am not sure where Islam comes into the celebrations but if Muslims want to join the ring, they are more than welcome!
Christmas (as a Christian festival) was made to coincide with other midwinter festivals so as not to annoy the pagans who the Church wanted to convert. Jesus was probably born in the spring, anyway (shepherds would not have been herding their flocks on the hills in winter, quite apart from any other historical clues) but I don't see that it matters that we choose to celebrate the birth of the "Light of the World" in the darkest days, nor that many other religions have a similar celebration at about the same time. Would you join with pagans in celebrating Yule, as well?
Perhaps all signs should read:
"God Yule" "Happy Hannukah" "Blessed Diwali" ... "Merry Christmas"

I would rather a sales peson wish me a Merry Christmas than try to sell me lottery tickets. I am not a Christian, but I celebrate Christmas, I have been know to wish people a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays. I don't get upset. It is a warm and loving time of the year in the United States for the most part and I like to share in the warmth and the loving spirit. I donate the the Charities, juat as I would donate to Muslim charities if they collocted in the streets during Ramadan or any other of their celebrations or the Jewish clecbrashitions. I rather wish that they would have such sidewalk collections, It seems kind of lopsided to me. I'd like to see as many religious ceremonies celebrated on the streets of the United States and are celebrated in the Streets of India. I think we would be a much happy country.
