It is always more expensive to fly in the school holidays than it is in term time. Schools in my home country now have a zero tolerance to children going a holiday in term time nowadays. I am a primary school teacher and often I do contracts then travel when one ends. Like I covered a maternity leave from May to October and was paid over the summer holidays. Then I went to New Zealand and the Pacific Islands for a few months. It was amazing to snorkel with dolphins on Christmas Day that year. One time I finished teaching on Friday and flew off to Hong Kong on Monday then after a few days I continued to Western Australia. It was winter because it was my summer holiday. The weather was fairly alright, cool to warm.
What do you think about traveling in the school holidays?
Do you notice crowds around in the school holidays?

I can understand some concern over families traveling during term, however, there should never be a zero tolerance for it. Majority of families can't afford vacations during peak times (holidays) therefore, they have to do it during term. Now if a family was taking several vactions in one year during term, that may need to be addressed by the school directly with that family.
You're very lucky to do the traveling that you do. Sounds awesome! I would love to see the world someday. Right now though, have a family with 3 kids. Our first family vacation was last year around Memorial Day. We spent a weekend in Wisconsin. Would like to do it again, but it depends on whether we can save enough. Would also like to do it when it's warmer weather so kids can swim.

I'm not too fussed. Probably wouldn't travel abroad then, because as you say, it's always more expensive, than in term-time. I did go to Holland in the summer, travelling early July and coming back early August, the plane flight didn't seem too expensive, though I did book it well in advance. It is probably the package holidays and the long-haul flights that zoom up in price the most. Do notice more crowds to some extent in the school holidays. All the best. :~)

Would just like to add: I think there should be some tolerance to families taking holidays during term-time, especially as most families are on very tight budgets. Of course, like the second respondent says, there has to be a limit to it. It could also depend on the stage the child's schooling is in. How likely they are to catch up again. Probably, a limit of a week at a time, no more than once or twice a year should be sufficient...
