I Was Infected...

I'm sorry to hear that. I got a virus not too long ago also. I have Norton Antivirus and it detected it. Norton put it in quarantine for me. I'm not sure where it came from.

Yes, I have had viruses due to my grandchildren and the gaming sites they go to. The first time I worked for days getting it all out. The second time It was so bad that my computer froze up. I couldn't do a thing. I took it to a friend of mine that works on computers it took him 2 days of constant work and my computer had to be reformated. Of course everything was saved and cleaned for my use when my computer came back up. As you say everything had to be put back into my computer which took me a couple of days after I got it back and him putting what programs he knew I ran on the thing.
He works on computers all of the time. That's what he does now as he is retired from the Air Force. He told me that most of the computers he gets has to be reformated because of people going to game sites. I'm real careful and only go to two different ones for my games. But my grandsons want to go to all of the ones the kids use these days. I can't remember the names of them and also the code cheats and info about the games for the them to exel in the games games. I don't allow my grandchildren to go to these things and they wer not suppose to. They took liberties when I wasn't in the room.
Now they are only allowed to get on my computer when I am in the room and only the games that I go to. I have Gamehouse and Shockwave that I use and have never had a problem with the games there.

Hi Friend, I would suggest you to install a anti virus which has a site advisor along with normal security. I use Mcafee total protection which has one, this prevents you from accessing sites which are prone to malware, virus contents from downloading to your computer. Now a days even mylot is being blocked by my siteadvisor so I am extra careful not to click on any links other than discussing.

I had many bad experiences with these some time back and I had to format my PC with no other resort. Once I even lost all my data and my favorite collection of songs and games. From that day I learnt my lesson not to blindly click on the internet.

Get a copy of AVG available for free, or mcafee if you can. Nowadays adware and trojans are more worse than viruses. Many sites tend to use these to capture your personal details and advertising their programs.

Cost me $200 to get rid of some that I had go then they all showed back up later so I got another anti virus system and got rid of them I dont know how to reformat.

Not so long ago I saw a discussion that I was interested in I clicked on respond to discussion and it brought the page up and I was just about to type when I noticed at the bottom of my screen something was trying to upload. I thought whats that? The next minute my norton kicked in and told me that an attempt to attack my computer had been blocked I quickly tried to get off the page but could not and the virus attempted to attack my computer a further two times. Luckily for me norton saved the day and I eventually managed to get off the page. Another time I clicked on a link and my computer went crazy and threw up the same page over and over and I could not stop it and eventually my computer just closed itself down! Again Norton saved the day, but everyone needs to have an anti virus running because there seems to be quite a lot of this about at the moment.

twoey - any hacker can break through a virus program. If you research the internet, right next to how to report a hacker, are websites that teach a person how to be a hacker.

I close my browser window before moving from one website to the next. It's more difficult for a hacker to follow you.

One last suggestion, if you download ubuntu, no one hacks in, because it is a linux based, free software program. Hackers are looking for challenges and don't bother with free software.

Ubuntu runs on any computer.

Hi twoey..I have McAfee anti virus and at the moment it gives me a warning sign everytime I come on here I have read the reports and one of them states that there is a cookie called tribalfusion.com yet all reports are good reports apart from bad shopping experience here (which I have never heard of!) and lots of pop ups apart from that there are minor annoyances so in all Mylot is a safe site but you are right we do have to be careful when opening links, my opinion is that it is the links that do get posted on here that could be the problem, but obviously the person sending it wouldn't know.
My only real bad experience was with the trojan Mal Warrior it destroyed my laptop and when I had it removed just the other week I had someone look at it cos it was playing up. and the shop hadn't removed Mal Warrior it was hidden deep in the hard drive so much for the people I took the laptop to they didn't know what they were doing....hugs littleowl

I am so sorry you had a virus in your computer, touche wood it has not happen to me yet, I won't click on anything I don't about and we have got a good security systems that kicks out anything that can cause virus.

Wow! good thing you have a back up PC so that way you did not loose all your personal data. Yeah I agree with to be very careful in clicking on to sites that you don't know cause it might just give you a virus/spyware. Next time you see something popep up, just click on the X and nowhere else. I also am using avast and so far its been protecting me.

We recently had to do the same thing. We got a virus from a PTC site that I had started that same day. Needless to say I NEVER went back to that PTC again. We have an upgraded antivirus now and haven't had any problems. We didn't lose anything but we culdn't do anything without a million pop-ups and crazy things happening on our screen.
