I got sick of my cell phone and wasn't using it so I cancelled my service. They tried to keep me with a lower payment and I told them no. If I didn't need my land line that would go as well. But I need that for my Mom and my son. I have gone back to when I didn't know what it was like to have one. And you know what? It is great no one can get me when I'm not home. Jee to bad. I can shop and go out to my friends house with out my sister trying to hunt me down. If they need me I leave a note at home and tell my son only call this # if someone is dead. They called me all the time for the dumbest stuff. Where are you what are you doing when are you coming home? So got rid of phone. I feel FREE. I can breath it is great. have a nice day

Wow! Not me. I cannot imagine not having a cell phone. I use it all day long at work to contact the office and my clients. I have a Blackberry and all my contacts are stored on there. I keep my calendar on there with reminders for meetings, etc. Also, I keep personal stuff like birthdays, etc. on there. I would be lost if I did not have my cell phone with me. I sync it up with my laptop as soon as I get back to the office every day to keep everything updated. Also, it is with me so my wife can contact me or I can contact her. And you never know when there will be an emergency and you will need a phone. Not to mention the free long distance and free calls on nights and weekends.

Well, I don't work in a office so no need for that. If I have to call as in broken down have my old one with 911 to call. other wise I needed a break from my crazy family. And a few of my friends. My son needed to learn to pay for his own and he has now. I thought he was going to have heart failure when his phone didn't work. I told him if you want it you pay for it. I don't want it. In a couple of months I will get a prepaid as I never use all my min. Have a nice day. Your friend onlydia

See, I think I am the total opposite of you in this respect. I only have a cell phone. We got rid of our landline about 6 years ago. It was just too expensive to keep the landline. And with the cellphone it goes with me wherever I go. If I don't want to talk to the person I just hit the ignore button and send it off to voice mail, etc. But if I need it it is there for me whenever and wherever I am. I don't have to wait at home by the phone if I am expecting a return call from the doctor, etc. It is freedom for me to have the cell phone, not the other way around. Also, my son and my husband and I share our minutes and have free mobile to mobile. And alot of my friends also have the same carrier so it is free to call them too.
Also, I factor in the free long distance. I have friends and family all across the country and it costs no more to call coast to coast then it is to call across the street. I carry my cell phone in my pocket when I am at home too so I can always hear it if it rings. I find it very convenient. I think for me it is a win-win situation. I could never give up my cell phone, ever.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

My Mom has a cell phone and she keeps hers in her back pocket and doesn't even answer it. I told her Mom had my cell turned off. She had a fit at first how are you going to talk to me. I said you have a cell you call me as it is free. I could never get bars in my house anyway. Verizon bites in Minneapolis in some spots. I live in the one spot it don't work to good. So besides all the stupid people calling if I didn't anwser the house phone call me on my cell. No more. I just needed time to breath and go back in time of no cell phone for awhile. I treat my cell phone like I would my home phone... If I don't feel like talking to anyone, I'll turn it off & won't answer it... I do have a home phone but it's only because I have DSL for internet & according to Verizon, I have to have a phone line... My 8 year old daughter uses the home phone for her friends & when she needs to call me when I'm at work... I do use my cell phone for both personal & work purpose... But just like I wouldn't answer my house phone if my work calls me on my day off & I don't feel like going in, I wouldn't answer my cell phone if my work calls me on my day off... That simple... I guess it's about how you treat the phone, not how you let it run your life... When people used to get mad at me for not answering my phone, I tell them, "You need me! Leave a message & I'll get back to you at MY convinience..."

I have a prepaid cell phone only too. I like it that way. Most of the time my phone is off, but then I have one if I do need to use it. I have found it to come in handy for various reasons, that saved me gas, and was there if I had an emergency. Oh by the way, even without service they say you can use a cell phone to call 911 anyway.
I don't enjoy having a phone to my ear or be "available " to just talk and talk when I am busy trying to get other things done.
Glad you feel your freedom and you can always get service again if you feel you want to!~

I had my cellphone turned off for a few hours only because someone was nagging me about going out with him. I didn't really know him. My friend just gave my number to him. At first, he was okay. I thought he just wanted to be friends with my but as time went by, he became anxious and acted quite weird. I never really like those kind of people.
When I turned on my cellphone, he started calling and sending messages again. I was so pissed off and gave him a big spank (figuratively) to teach him a lesson he would never forget.

I can't live without a phone!! I have a prepaid phone and it was just too expensive to keep putting minutes on it so I stopped. I am going to get an unlimited phone plan from Cricket for $30 a month. I gotta open a checking account first so I can order from the website. I guess people do call me for dumb stuff too but I always like to have a phone for convenience I guess.

I also feel that I need to be disconnected at times. This is when I screen my calls and only answer if it is someone that I want to talk t like my wife or kids. I also feel that cell phones are important to have for the exact opposite reason. I need to feel that I can be reached at a moments notice in the event of an emergency. I also like that If I need to reach someone, I can just call them anytime. My kids are very young but I taught them my cell number before my land line number. I never mind if they call and especially like knowing that they can call if they need mr for anything at anytime.

I used to screen my calls. It is a pain in the Butt and I just don't want to anymore. My son is now 18 going to be 19 in Feb. I hate them now. I needed it when they didn't answer the phone at work. Now no. If I'm gone for the weekend he know's where I'm at and the phone # there. Other wise it is like Freedom. No phone. Love it. But you still have little one's. have a great day. Onlydia

I use mine when I travel because I travel alone alot...other then that I don't have it on....I can't stand it when people are constantly on the phone.....and since my kids know that they can reach me on the computer it's not necessary to have it on all the tim.

yes, seems that mobile phone leave us less freedom than before. Anyone who knows your phone number can find you. Without mobile phone, no body knows where you are unless if you don't like them to know. But even I fullly awear of this point, I still take my mobile phone whenever I go. I need to keep my mobile phone on, so that my customers can find me when I am not at my office.
One of my customer had ever called me in a early morning, when I was sleeping. I am in china, and he is from freign country, there's time difference, he just wanted to get things done, and forgot our time difference. Since then, I would turn off my mobile phone when I sleep to avoid being disturbed.

See them are all the reason's that I got mine turned off. I like it now. it is peaceful. and now my son is home to talk to me face to face. No phone. I told him the only time to call is if he needs me. If I'm not home I'm at work or at the store you can't wait 30 min. to bad. Leave a message on landline. The only thing is if I was to break down. Now that would be let me see. Oh yes the old day's where I fixed it myself. Or got a ride from someone else. Have a wonderfulday. Onlydia

I hated my cell at times because of that very reason. It seemed as if i was trying to get away for a moment to myself and if i forgot it i'd find tons of text msgs and voicemails as to why i don't pick up and where i am... so if i couldn't be "hunted down" as you put it so perfectly lol.. i found the hunters leaving evidence of their attempt to catch me...
Even more so was this problem when i was attending university... my parents knew my schedule and they would ask me it before i leave yet the non-stop calls would still find their way to me =P "where are you...?" im at the university... where else would i be =P
BUT i must admit having a cell was also great... i was able to keep in touch with a lot of friends even with a hectic schedule which i wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
