I worked for a growing family owned business for 7 years back before my children were born. I loved working there, and even stayed there despite the fact that growth potential was limited, but I liked the company, I liked the owners, the people and my bosses. The company had grown so quickly that they eventually had to hire a controller to help them with their finances. This was about year 5 of my working there. They had to fire the general manager who had been put in charge of handling administration which meant he had been my manager, so for some reason beyond my comprehension they decided to put the controller in charge of the administrative staff, this woman had no business managing people. She may have been good with money but not people. She would say mean and rude things to people. She would actually search out things to yell at me about. She would make a big deal out of tiny little things that did not matter that much, then she would buy me gifts, gain my trust again, and then beat me down verbally again. I know I was a good employee, I did my own job and always completed my tasks on time. I also helped everyone else out when ever they needed help, and my tasks were completed. Pretty much anyone could go on vacation and know that I would be able to fill in for them while they were gone. This woman just made my life there completely miserable. After she took over I could not sleep at night, and I never knew what was going to happen to me when I walked in. This woman yelled at me for a having a picture of my dog on my desk. I finally quite after 2 years of being under her terrible management. I would have quite sooner, but I was pregnant and on maternity leave for 3 months, but once I came back she made life unbearable for me. I stayed another few months and then finally quit.
Her treatment of me bothered me for many years after that. I finally got over it, but it still makes me mad to this day, but it no longer haunts me like it used to.
Have you ever had a boss who treated you so badly it took you a long time to get over it?

I think we've all worked for people that were void of feelings so they must be robots in disguise. I've had a few bosses that for the life of me couldn't have lived as long as they did treating people the way they did. This lady was jealous of you, plain and simple, she saw something that she couldn't be so in turn she tried to destroy it. I know the memories still live with you and the only thing I can say is, if you ever meet somebody like that again you'll know exactly what to do.

Hi. ladym33. Yes, right now, it still bothers me that my boss mistreated me at a job that I worked at. He was so mean to me and he did not show me any mercy when I tried to reason with him. I was a very polite, hardworking and sweet worker. I never gave him any trouble. I was not wild like many of the other co-workers were. I did the best that I could. But he just would get upset if I needed something. That is the main reason why I choose to not work for anyone anymore. After this terrible experience with my boss, I can't deal with anymore nasty attitudes that come from someone or a boss. I just can't. I have not worked at this job in seven years! I am still haunted by how my supervisor made me feel in front of others. He yelled at me really loudly when I kindly asked if he could give me some more time to find my son a baby sitter just so that I could come to work. He gave me two weeks from the start, without a problem, and then when I asked him for more time, he went nuts!
He got all loud and he spoke to me in a very harsh and nasty way. My co-workers watched him act like this to me. Many of them acted as if they felt sorry for me. I will never forget how he has treated me when I never was a bad worker. I will never understand why.

Hmmm. I thought I have but when I think of it, I have gotten over it. I never really mind what happened before, I think it made me a stronger person.

I am lucky not to have a boss who is abusive. I do have a kind of demeanor which people respect and even my bosses know to respect this. I know there are many bosses who abuse their employees. I'm sorry for that. Life goes on, though. Cheers!!

I have never really had an abusive boss, but then again I have a strong personality and aggresive nature so most people don't mess with me. I have had icompetent bosses however, those who have no business being in the position that that they are in and don't know how to lead. I have also been offended by bosses. But I have never had one that made my life miserable because they made me feel bad. But I have come home angry a few times.

Yes, I had a boss like that. I worked at a company for seven years and had no problems! I was well liked and received alot of praise for my work. They hired a new office manager and she was absolutely horrible. She hated me from day one. I never understood why. She watched me like a hawk. She would even get mad if I had to use the bathroom! It was too much to take. I turned in my notice and stated she was the reason I was leaving. I hope they took note of that! It still bothers me all these years later. I never want to work in an office again because of her.
