Gee, I didn't think it cost THAT much to make John look so lovely...lol! OK, I'm being a wise a$$ here. http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/12/04/mccain-campaign-spent-110000-on-palin-stylists/ Before anyone accuses me yet again of picking on Sarah Palin let me make it clear that I'm not blaming her for this! I just have to wonder what in the world whoever made these decisions were possibly thinking! It had already been reported by the RNC that an additional $30,000 on top of the initially reported $150,000 had been spent on clothing and accessories for Palin and her family, now they report $42,225 was spent for a hair stylist and $68,400 for a traveling make-up artist. Listen, it's not secret I'm not and haven't been a fan or supporter of Sarah Palin but I'll certainly admit she's an attractive woman and certainly didn't NEED anyone spending that kind of money to do her hair and make-up! I have no doubt it wasn't her decision so this isn't a dig at her at all. Honest!! So, what are your thoughts? Annie

It certainly is an excessive amount of money, but you can't deny that she was being judged on every single little superficial detail in this campaign. Women have to deal with this far more than men. Even Campbell Brown stuck up for her talking about how much hate mail she receives every time someone doesn't like her makeup or her clothes whereas none of the men on CNN ever get an unkind word regardless of how they look. I'm sure you've seen the way people talk about Michelle Obama's clothes yet nobody comments on how goofy Barrack looks when he tucks his shirt in while playing basketball. Did they need to spend THAT much money? No, of course not. But while they may have overpaid, it was still a valid expense and I never heard ANYONE complain about her appearance, hair, makeup, clothing, or otherwise. The dollar amount only became an issue because of the media smear campaign.

I'm sure not going to deny there's a definite double standard when it comes to how people look and how they're dressed and how their hair and make-up are done. The only time anyone "complains" about a man's appearance is if they look exceptionally bad or strange! However, if I had contributed to this campaign or to the RNC I'd be a bit upset over "my" money being used so foolishly. I mean, several hundred, even for a single haircut would be acceptable. A designer outfit, say for the Convention, for a female candidate would be fine. Six figures for about two months, now that's a huge waste of money! I still just don't get how it's a "media smear campaign". Annie

It's a media smear campaign because it was done to smear HER and the facts were not reported properly. They made claims that she went on shopping sprees at Neiman Marcus and spent all that money herself. They made jokes about "Hillbillis gone Wild" and such. They didn't bother to get their facts straight before portraying her as a shopaholic who buys clothes on someone else's dime. I for one don't give money to the RNC. If I did, I'd have to acknowledge that once I give them that money it is there's to do with as they please. If I didn't like how they were spending it, I'd stop giving them money. It's not like it's taxpayers dollars that are taken from us by force if necessary.

I don't know, the campaign is over and they lost, it shows all of the attention they were given didn't pay off. I agree Sarah is an attractive lady, however I would pick my wife over her any day or NIGHT of the week. The facts keep coming forward but it's a done deal and I think we can move on.

Good for you, picking your wife over her! Being a woman I don't see what all the fuss is about. You're right, it didn't pay off for them, did it? What would it be, about 1/2 Electoral Vote for every grand spend on clothes and make-up? Annie

I don't think she's responsible for that either. Like you said, she certainly doesn't need it.

hi anniepa well whoever did the spending and the planning for Sara Palin and McCain its obscene spending that kind of money when there are people still out of work. as for mccain nothing'could make him look attractive to me,eventhough he was this so called war hero he is and was still a stooge of Bushes but I fail to see why'they had to spend all this money in the face of people who need so badly in this horrid economy.

Any thoughts? Yes, when will she go away? I just want her to go away. Think the RNC will pay for my shrink bills? I think I need one since her run.

ROFLMAO! I think you should ask the RNC to buy you a tanning bed since that's supposed to help with - what's that called? - "Seasonal Depressive Disorder"? Annie
