We used to shop at Safeways where we could get this Texas Chili in cans. It was in two versions, mild and hot and we used to buy the hot kind. Now because the prices were cheaper, we now shop at Superstore, where the chili is not so good. It is not as meaty, the hot version is more like medium hot, and the brand they have tastes more like Campbell's Tomato Soup plus some ground beef or beef strips with some kidney beans and some chili powder to make it seem like chili. Even the Stouffer's brand is not that much better. I have been to Tim Horton's and they make a good chili, but unfortunately I cannot find if them on the secret recipe sites. I had some other chili, not so good. I have been trying to make chili, but I make it too thick for my husband. So what is your best store bought chili? And if not, what is your best home made chili recipe?

Well, I don't eat chili, because I'm allergic to the chili peppers. But I found a recipe that you might try....http://www.recipezaar.com/Four-Alarm-Chili-90037 There used to be a mix called 4 alarm, but I haven't seen it in years, saw 2 alarm at Walmart... Like I said, I don't eat chili, not a Texan doesn't even come close. Now, most people that I know like Wolf Brand....

here's a brand here in Minnesota that is not canned but comes in a tray frozen. It's called Captain Kens. One of the best store bought Chilis ever I think. That company also has Captain Kens Firehouse Baked Beans. YUMMMY! HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My favorite store bought chili is Bush's which I get at the Walmart Supercenter. I know the company Bush's is mostly known for their baked beans, but I tried their chili and I absolutely love it. I don't make my own homemade chili, but my dad sometimes does. I don't know what he puts in it, and truthfully I'm a little scared to ask. lol

I do not know if they have Bush's up here. I will have to check Walmart's or Safeway's, but it sounds good.

I have never bought chili in cans. I also like Tim Hortons chili and go there quite often in the winter when I don't feel like cooking. The only thing I miss there are the condiments to add to the chili. I like shredded cheddar cheese, no fat sour cream and tiny gherkins at the side. I also make my own chili. I really don't have an excat recipe. I use an onion, a stalk of celery, a couple of garlic cloves about a pound of ground beef, one can of kidney beans and a large can of tomatoes and chili powder and cayenne pepper to make it hot. If it is too thick I add a little broth. Tell your husband to do the same or if he does not like your chili to take you out for lunch at Tim Hortons.

I really enjoy Stagg chili. It had a more real taste to it and it's not that high in fat. I think the varieties I usually eat have no added sugars or MSG, too. It's probably the closest to homemade-tasting of all the canned varieties.

I did try Stagg chili and I liked it, although I wish it were a little hotter. It seems here in Canada, they think hot chili means medium chili. They sort of think that we are wimps as far as taste is concerned and we will break out in hives if it is any hotter.

I really like to make my own chili, but if i can't then i like to buy Hormal chili...I use to really like Wolf brand chili but now days it has to much grissel in it,so now i prefer Hormal..They use to have a really good brick chili, but i have have not seen that kind in a long time..It use to be really good....When something is real good,it seems they quit making it....

In the HEB store, in the Rio Grande Valley, chili comes in 4 versions, Hot with Beans, Hot with no Beans, Mild with Beans and Mild with no Beans. I like the mild with no beans and then I add a can of pork and beans when reheating. In Canada all chili has beans, and in fact until I began to spend the winters in McAllen Texas I had no idea there was such a thing as a Chili without Beans. If you are in South Texas, seek out the HEB supermarket. They are the best!

I never buy chili any more. I make mine with red beans either dry or canned. Then I add a can of tomato sauce, a can or two of petite diced tomatoes, Ro-Tel diced tomatoes with green chilies, the hot can. Then I add a teaspoon or two of chili powder to give it the chili taste. Add some fried ground hamburger with onions too. Some secret recipes call for some cinnamon too. I have tried it and we like it. Any way that's how I make chili. I guess it's time to make some again. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
