What do yo do with your Christmas Tree?... |
|
During Christmas... we Filipinos decorate our homes with a fake Christmas tree... mainly because there are no real Christmas trees available... and that they are available in different sizes, shapes, and prices... i remember the 6 foot Christmas tree we used for more than 15 years... and it certainly served it's purpose...
For those who are using the real Christmas tree... what do you do with it when Christmas is over?... just curious because if you just throw it away... then that would be such a waste... and if you recycle it... then how?...
Just curious...

1. ravinskye (6062) | 12 months ago | It has been a long time since we have had a real tree. We have been using a fake one for the last few years. When we had one we lived in town. We would just take it outside when we were done with it and burn it. We lived in a small town so that was ok. When I still lived at home my dad would take it and throw it in the woods or down by the river. If he put it down by the river then when the river got higher it would wash it away.

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | I never thought that getting rid of the tree can be quite a task... but i hope your father does not throw it by the river anymore... since that can do some harm to some people or even wild animals...
Thanks for the response...

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | What is a mulch... i don't know if i have ever seen one... and i never thought that real Christmas trees can be high maintenance... i never experienced having one... but then... i think artificial trees are as great... since they are environment friendly...

3. spalladino (8899) | 12 months ago | When I lived in Maryland there were special pick ups for Christmas trees so that they could be recycled but we have a different kind of recycling down here in my neighborhood in Florida. We have a nephew who lives across the canal from us and he usually has a New Year's Eve party, which is held outside (because it's warm here) and will include a large bon fire consisting of everyone's used Christmas trees. My son-in-law nextdoor has already taken their over and my husband will take ours as soon as we take it down...which will be today or tomorrow. By New Year's Eve they will have about 20 trees over there, which will burn brightly but won't last long.

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | Wow... like a neighborhood party... that sound like a nice tradition... and everybody contributes to the bonfire or the whole party atmosphere by donating used christmas trees... well that is better than just throwing away the trees...

4. DCMerkle (600) | 12 months ago | I use to put up real trees for Christmas. When the kids grew up and moved on out, I didn't see any reason to buy a real tree. As much as I really don't like artificial trees, I went ahead and bought one. I miss the smell of a fresh pine or balsam, but I don't miss the falling needles, vacuuming everyday, watering the tree or chasing the cat out of it, and I really don't miss hauling it out to the curb for pick-up.

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | Well, my mother replaced our old artificial tree this year... she said she really did not want to put up a new one... but because she wanted to make her granddaughters feel the christmas spirit... she bought a big one at the mall and asked my sister to decorate it... and my niece and daughter were very happy about that...

5. syeryn (508) | 12 months ago | We use a real tree and while I can't say that we recycle it, we don't just throw it away either. We save it until Super Bowl Sunday and add it to a pile of wood for our bon fire.

|
|
aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | That is a good thing to do... so you save a lot by using the used christmas tree... and it adds effect to you super bowl sunday party... the bon fire sound nice... i just love seeing one...

7. braveheart07 (1888) | 12 months ago | We have a small Christmas tree, I think three feet only. It is a white Christmas tree. We have been using it for almost 10 years already I guess.
It is pretty obvious that we have recycled the Christmas tree. It really has a sentimental value to us, so we don't want to throw it away.
Since it is small and its parts are removable, we can easily place it in a small plastic bag to restore it for future use.:-)

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | A white artificial Christmas tree... those are not very common in Filipino houses... i only see them in malls or offices... but i guess if it has sentimental value... that is all that counts...
Thanks for the response... and nice to see you again...

9. bdugas (2438) | 12 months ago | Here where I live in the usa (ohio) people who have real trees, after christmas they are taken out by the curb and on certain days the city or county I don't know which comes by and picks them up, I think they recycle them, how I don't know. but they are all collected at the same time. Where I lived in Louisiana they burn them on New Years Eve.

| |
|
|
aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | Seems like burning the used tree is what most people do... i wonder if some can find an alternative to this... like carving the wood into something that would decorate the house... but that would take a lot of skilled carvers...

10. agrant10 (851) | 12 months ago | It is so funny that I have just came across this discussion. My daughter and I just took down the Christmas tree and took off the decorations and placed the tree back in the box and also the decorations and have it ready to place back in the attic until next December 2009.
We have used the same tree for two years and it looks like we will be using it next year as well.

aseretdd (6843) | 12 months ago | I think Artificial trees are more environment friendly... even if they are made from plastic... because they can be used for a very long time... like the last one that we had... we used it for more than 10 years... maybe even 15...
Thanks for the response...
