Preparing for my four legged friend  email this discussion to a friend?

Well my shelitie has not come yet but I have already began forking out money on her. I had to change the mixer to a shower since I need to give her a bath in the washroom basin. It costed me around 50 Euros and my brother in law came to fix it free of charge. I have to install an aluminium gate so that she wont be allowed downstairs when we are not around. The aluminium guy is going to fix it later on this evening. It's going to cost a couple of Euros. I have to do some tiling works as well to keep the washroom tidy. I do have extra tiles. All I have to pay is for the tiler only. Preparing for a dog is like preparing for a baby.....

You got that right. I hope you are prepared for a lot of exercise, Shelities are very high energy dogs, but you couldn't have chosen a cuter one. Good Luck

Yes, dogs are a lot of work. We have 2 of them, and 2 kids... so we've got our house pretty much safety-proofed! LOL
The toughest part in having a new puppy is the potty training and chewing stages of their growth.... If you work hard at it, your puppy could be potty-trained within a week or two - just remember that they can only "hold it" for as many hours as weeks old they are.... if your puppy is 8 weeks old, it cannot "hold it" for more than 8 hours...
Also, part of your preparation should be to find a safe place to put your tv remote, shoes, etc.... for the first 6 months or so, you puppy will LOVE to chew.... remotes and shoes were always the victims at our house!! ;)
Good Luck and Enjoy your new little friend!!!

Cords need protecting too. You wouldn't believe how many telephone cords I've replaced. Electrical cords are dangerous too. But ever so much fun for a puppy...

Well almost like preparing for a baby but still if you want them to be safe and not get hurt or your stuff ruined it is best to be fully prepared..Just think though if the dog is potty trained or almost then all you have to do is get papers and no expensive diapers, college education, weddings and all that good stuff..lol Well, hope you get things all ready and that you get your dog soon.

Sorry just I seen that you wrote son's and thought of a male dog. Puppies are such a joy to all but when unexpected it can be a busy time and costly for shots, worm meds and papers and such.

I didn't have to spend much for my cat. We did get her toys, browse for pet food and get her a basket that is now too small for her. The vet is where most money go for her actually. She is indoor cat, small cute and very timid. But make no mistake, bathing or brushing her teeth is like going to some kind of battle LOL I wonder sometimes if she is an alien invader or something. That's why if hubby and I are not ready for the fight we would wait for the right time.
Anyway good to know that your best friend will be living with you happy

Yes, preparing for a dog is alot like preparing for a baby, thats what I tell people, that puppies are very much like babies, they need our care, we feed and teach them. You can't leave them alone, especially if they are in the house, they get into all kinds of stuff if your not watching them. It will be good when you finally get your sheltie, how much longer do you have to wait? I hope its not too much longer, you'll be all ready for her....Good Luck
