It is not easy if you have a large frame  email this discussion to a friend?

I wonder how those who tell you to lose weight, know that if you have an extra large frame it is not easy. I have gone down from 220 to 195 lb or 197 lb with shoes and yet that has not satisfied them because my bmi is too high. You see I have gone from a 40 inch waist to a 38 inch waist and that is not good enough. I have a muscular build as well. So why do they think that all I have to do is to eat less and exercise more and nothing happens? And the trouble is I do not look obese, I just look stocky.

Hmm. Have you had your body fat measured? That might be the most reliable way to shut up whoever is telling you that you need to lose weight and/or figure out if you need to. BMI is an ok guide, but as you've pointed out, not really very good for people who lie at spectrum ends of the bell. Ie, by having way more muscle, or large frames.

I guess the real question, beyond whether you're generally healthy (balanced eating and getting some exercise), is if you're happy with the way you look and your weight? It can be hard to accept ourselves, especially if other people keep trying to tell us to change, but in the end, we are who we are, genetics plays a large role in our looks and body physiology, and we might as well be happy.

I am fairly healthy, it is just that these things forget that I have a bust. They think I am shaped like an apple. I mean maybe they are talking about women who had a mastectomy.

It sounds like you have done really well.This happened to a friend of mine she went down really quick then every pound was a nightmare,it is apparently because you carry excess fluid in your body and that has what has gone you are now working on fat and thats what takes the hard work,keep exercising and eating properly balanced diet and it will happen it just takes time.Keep the faith mate it will happen and goodness me won't you feel better you just have to look at it as a long term thing.I bet in six months time you would have shed a few more pounds but they will stay off for good,you arelosing weight the right way.I think it is one of those things that suddenly happens.

My husband wanted me to get some candies, so that sort of put me behind, and I decided to not get on the scales until I got rid of that weight, but I have been doing a lot of walking. So I hope that when I go to the doctor in March, I will have gotten down to at least 190 lb.

A few candies won't hurt you ,a little treat will cheer you up.keep up with the walking and try dancing to music indoors that takes it off like mad.Since you have a big frame take it easy as it is more difficult for you as your bones weigh heavier.

Actually a few candies will not hurt that is true, but for someone overweight they should be getting away from the idea of food as a reward, that is the kind of thinking that gets people in gaining in the first place. You should be replacing the food rewards with treats like a bubble bath, watching your favorite TV show or reading a good book for a quiet hour.

Yes you are quite right maybe keep a fruit bowl full of bite size fruit like plums ,apricots ,clementines,ect and nible from that.Never having been really over weight maybe I don't really understand the problem as well as most.Thanks for putting me right.xx

I don't see anything wrong with muscles. Isn't it what work out is all about? building muscles and reduce fat. 38 inch waist that's not bad, hubby is also 38 and he still have a V shape due to his younger days active in martial arts and work out. the only thing that ruins the scene is his beer belly :)
Maybe you need to go to a nutritionist instead. Ask them to compile a menu list for you. I think the idea is not eating less food, instead it's eating food that has less of certain elements. You also need to do the right exercise, because some exercises don't work for some people due our builds. I don't think large framed people can ever be skinny or people won't notice if you lose weight soon enough. But you know you do and who wants to be skinny anyway? I am skinny and I don't like it at all sad

It is just that they have the idea that if you are short and you have a large frame then you are going to drop dead at any moment. So maybe that tall Viking in my ancestry should not have married that short Welsh lady, huh? And I would love to eat food with more elements, but I have to put up with a husband who thinks that what is in the food he likes is enough.

You can gradually work some more off. Don't be in a hurry. And don't get all panicky about it either.

You are already trying to cook using little or no fats. You are keeping carbs down.

So the weight is coming off. It's just slowing down. I'm still losing weight. It's just coming off slowly. That's how it will do you too.

That sounds interesting. I often wondered why there is a high incidence of diabetes, maybe it is because the food that is good for us is too expensive or treated as a supplement.

How tall are you suspenseful? I think that the height has to be taken into account. I am overweight too and can't seem to lose it. You have done well.

Hey....you're doing pretty good there hon, at least in my opinion. I had the same problem before the gastric bypass. No matter if I lost a lot or a little, I still looked big. Some people including doctors are just weight loss "fanatics" as far as I'm concerned. They don't take all factors into consideration when they are harping on their friends or patients. And that's just too irritating to me. Keep up the good work hon.

Who is this person that keeps telling you to lose weight and what are they to you? There are only two things that matter and that's that you are healthy and comfortable with yourself. Anything and anyone else doesn't matter sweetie, love yourself. By the way i'm a bigger boned girl with a 37.5 waist and I love my body. Once I accepted my body so did other people.

I have a large frame as well. Now what's different for me is i do need to lose weight. But like the previous peson mentioned, maybe you should have your BMI measured correctly by the water buoyancy method.

I should. I do know that I have a large b*st like my mother, but according to the charts they figure I look like an apple, no hips, no waist, etc. when I do have those things.

You probably have to be sick, grossly obese, and maybe part of test subjects in order to get weighed like that for free.

Remember it is more about health than about weight, BMI, or any of those other factors out there... make sure that your doctor says that you are healthy and that you are leading a healthy lifestyle and you should be fine.
