Are they making a sequel to the film the golden compass

I watch the secret of the golden compass on cable the other day and I was really into it then just when I thought the movie was getting good it ended so abruptly I was like what the bleep! lol, well I was wondering if there gonna make a sequel to the golden compass or what because I'm dieing to know whats gonna happen next the reason I'm asking is because I'm not sure how well the film did at the box office and I dont know if there still going ahead with the sequal or not
do any of you know for sure if there still making a sequal to the golden compass?

His Dark Materials is a trilogy so there should be two more movies. The second book, mentioned above, is the Subtle Knife and the third, which apparently hasn't been scheduled for production, according to Phillip Pullman's IMDb profile page, is The Amber Spyglass. I know sometimes, like in the Chronicles of Narnia or the Vampire Chronicles, the production companies pick and choose which books will make better movies but I can't imagine they'd break up a trilogy.

I've been hoping there wouldn't be a sequal since they made such a botch of the first one, but I guess it's coming. I really looked forward to the movie because I enjoy the books so much. I can't even remember the last time I was so disappointed in a film, even though I know the movies are never as good as the books. It was unbelieveable that they wasted a good cast and turned a complex and interesting plot into something that could have been put out by Disney. Unless I hear some indication that the next one will be truer to the book, I won't even bother to see it.

Well I guess they didnt do as good a job matching up the film version to the book version, but I think the film was still entertaining and besides they cant just leave us wondering what happened to the little girl and her friends, I mean the way it the film ended you could tell that there was supposed to be a sequel to the film, so I think they may as well make one, for those of us that are still interested in seeing what happened and who knows maybe the second half might be better then the first.

I didn't think very much of the film so if they do make a sequel, I hope that they make a better job of it. As you say, the ending was very poor.

Well yea we have all seen so many special effects extravaganzas like the this one after a while some of these films start to lose there luster with us especially if its not what we remember in the book, but to spite some of the golden compasses boring points I still dont think they should leave the film incomplete like that because there are still a few fans that may have enjoyed it even just a little, and they may want to see how the movie ends, because from what I saw it was quite obvious that there was supposed to be a part two, and who knows maybe part two will be better then the first film.

this is on demand and it.s good movie i think it will be a part two of this movie.i wanted more when it ended there have to be something more.

I've been wondering whether to bother watching this movie since it just came on HBO recently and now I've gotten mixed reviews here! I love Nicole Kidman and haven't really seen a bad movie with her in it so I'll probably watch it anyway. Thanks for the heads-up about the ending that leaves you hanging. I hate when that happens!

Hey there, I think you should check it out for yourself who knows you might enjoy it some, its one those special effects extravaganza and it dose have a few boring moments but its also has some good entertaining moments too, I kind of enjoyed it and Nicole kidman was cool as usual but yea the film dose leave you wondering what happened, it looks like there is supposed to be a sequel.
