LOL! My older daughter has used a nickname forever and it isn't her real name. I use a shortened form of her first name usually. She actually has two middle names and asked me if she could drop one of them eventually, I don't care, she's 19 now plus I didn't name her. Hmmmm.. my son was named after my husband so half the time we call him a nickname too. My younger daughter usually uses a short form of her first name. When I was pregnant with her, the older kids argued over me naming her 'Eminem' or 'sponge bob'. So far she still likes her name. When I was a kid I wanted to change mine desperately. I use a short form for anything but legal purposes and it still annoys me to have to use the whole thing. People like it though, it was probably the most popular girls name when I was born, although my parents say I was named for a relative, not because it was 'popular'. Your daughter sounds charming, I don't know that i would write a letter to the teacher but I'd probably tell her about it, talk about creative!

How sweet your little daughter sounds. When I was a child I think I wanted to be called different names and it didn't much care for my own name. Luckily as I got older I got used to it. I know a lady at my Spanish class called Kiery and that is similar to the name Kierrah. Kitty or Kirry is similar but I think Polkadots is not at all similar. I once taught a little girl and she liked to be called her middle name. Hello Kitty

That is very funny... i remember my niece wanted to be called Bubbles... and would cry everytime whe was called by her real name... even at school... good thing she had a change of mind and decided she doesn't like Bubbles anymore... And now... my two year old daughter wants to be called Betty... after Betty La Fea... very funny... everytime i ask where Betty is... she would point to herself... and when i ask her... "Who does Mommy love?"... she would say Betty...

I thought it's funny. Your kid is so adorable. Maybe she has been influenced by watching tv or a movie. One thing is for sure, she has great potential because she thinks well. Kids do always say things that we least expect. Their preferences change all the time. It is good that you will just let her understand why you name her that name. That way she will value her name and remember why you have given her such name.;-)

How cute. I am assuming your daughter is fairly young. My grandkids are changing there names all the time. We have woo-woo, dooney, tt2. It seems everytime I see them they have picked out a new nickname. I don't know if any of them have ever asked their mother to write a letter to the teacher though. LOL Oh to be young again.

My kids have never wanted to change their names. My daughter is too young to even thing about changing her name and my son only wants to be referred to by his full name at school, but I call him by a shortened version of his name.

haha when i was little i hated my name (Dawn) i always found it so bland and eh. i wanted to switch my first and middle names around (Elizabeth is my middle name) and i wanted to be called "Lizzy" as in Lizzy Maguire show. (i now shutter at the thought of being called "Lizzy") XD your daughter has a very pretty and unique name! i learned to like my name when i realized where i got it (Dawn is my moms middle name and Elizabeth is my grammas middle name) and now i appreciate it. you daughter sounds like so much fun!! to want to be called polkadots and hello kitty!!
