here in my state they ask that the afgans be about 36x36 for med sz animals and I would go with 30x30 for the cats you can use a bunch of your scrap yarn for them, the main thing is they need them to be able to fit into the cages , personally i find thats its the animal shelters that need them the most and most times the afgan goes home with the anilmal when they are adopted, but I can understand the vet thing too . I rember when my dog got fixed and she had to stay over night I sent her pet blankie that we made for her with her to put in the cage and they said she did so well cause of that , I figured that it was because it smelled like home and such but then again how can you heal when your in a metal cage and nothing soft under it :( but I can give ya a tip of what the animal shelters really want , they like donations but granny gans they dont like cause the animals claws get caught in the wholes and such so maybe you can find a pattern that dont have the "holes"like the granny one does.And as for the homeless shelters ( lol can you tell i do charity work ) you can make small bags that you can put small toys in like hot wheels and the like and hair scrunchies etc for the girls . there are alot of patterns out there for lil teddies too that would be good ;) its just somithing that the kids can know that they can take with them

have you contacted coats and clark about getting a donation? i have the addy for them if they choose you they will send you a box of yarn and trust me it wont be small! im STILL using the yarn they sent ! if intrested you can msg me and ill send ya the addy;) yea the donations can be expensive but i think its well worth it ! oh yea for the moms i stock up on those small hair brushes and sample sz shampoo deoderant etc and im trying to get my avon lady to lemme just order some persume samples from her to put in the bags ad well, they dont take long they are only about 8x8 and i close them with a ribbon drawsting:) lol and also donate baby hats to the local hosp cause the hates they put on babies when born just arent that cute :P

lol ok there is some ideas for you hope this helps and for teh lady asking bout the greeting cards well you can always donate birth annoucements the parents can fill in or somithing they can frame :)you know what would be cute ( as a scrapbookers and card maker too lol) what about a lil think that they can have the hosp put the babys footprints on ?? i know they always go on the birth cert that goes home ith you but who frames that ?? ya know just somithing that would fit into a 5x7 frame ;) i wish i would have had that when my kids were born!

The vets I'm going to make afgans for is the war hero's not the animals. But I'm going to start new one as I finished the pillow case for the afagn as well. It is for my son's girlfriend her birthday is in Fed. as well, as my son's I told him no it is not for you. He takes then all as well. He has then everywhere in his room and now his car. It took me two months but I didn't work on it all the time. And I made a pillow case for it also. I'm giving this one to my sons girlfriend for her birthday. She will be 18. I'm almost done with a new one it is a lap afgan. Well, it mite get bigger they always do. If it gets to fit a twin bed I will give to the homeless shelter. YOu have a great day.

I'm not all that good at it. I just like doing it so I don't smoke or yell. As it makes me feel happy. You know how it goes when your old cold and broke. I liked that just came to mind. I get the yarn on sale or sometimes at the thift store. So they are of all colors sometimes. My great niece said it is mixed like me. And dwon't share it with her Mom told her get your own. Yes, I finished an afghan that I made queen sized topper size ! Whew! Thought I would never get through. I like how it turned out but we SO glad it was done and over. Don't know if I will do another one that large. It becomes heavy as you work on it and a little hard to handle being that big.

Here is the funny part everytime I start one for them one of my family members ask for one as they have no afghans. My little great nieces got one. And made one for my nephew as he lost his job and they turned the heat way down so gave one to each of them. Now I can hopefully start for the rest of the homeless or ones in need of one. We crochet for the neonatal babies at 4 local hospitals and also for Disaster Relief which sends out supplies after tornadoes , hurricanes,etc... There are SO many worthy charities that are in need and more to come with the economy as is.
