Do you think that to much information about crimes, evidence, and witnesses are aired on the news.
I am looking at HLN, they are talking about a 4year old boy was found wondering around in a rest area alone. The little boy took authorities back to where is mother's body was and told them that a man had come into their house and shot his mother and he gave them more information about this man.
Do you think the media tells a little too much? I have heard news reporters say the public or people have a right to know. But don't they have the sense to know that they are giving the criminals reason to not let these witnesses live.
I say that is why they kill everyone that has witness the crime because the media is airing how they are being captured and who helped to identify them.
What do you think?

Hi chevee~Yes, I do agree that the news people give too much
information out and that is not a good idea. They are definitely
endangering the witnesses and also making it difficult for
the person who is committing the crime to get a fair trial
which then can cause them to not get the penalty or punishement
that they deserve! They are doing an injustice to all! But,
they are putting the witnesses in serious harms way by
revealing critical information! I don't understand why
they are allowed to give out that type of information to
the public before the suspect is caught!

There are some things that should not be said. But in reality the media does not tell enough. They say what ever they want to say and hide the rest. How many of you know that the Americas have no border anymore. Canada, Mexico and USA are all combining into one country under one dollar. How many of you know about the real reason why the army went to Iraq. Hmm... I wonder!

Sometimes I do think the media gives out to much information and details. But I understand why they do it. The more people that know about what happen, the more likely someone will come forward and turn someone in. Most times it is a family member who turns the criminal in after realizing it was them.

Oh that is a horrible news. I believe the media is really giving out too much info. They should withhold infos that could give way to the criminals identifying any witness to their crime. The media should not give out such infos they are endangering the lives of people in what they do. Yes people have rights to know whats happening but to a certain limit that won't put others into harms way. Sometimes the media does too much of this just for a good tap on the back from their boss not caring or knowing they cause harm to others.

Yes I definately think the media tells too much but whenever I said that someone has alsways said, "Well it's what the people want to see." I wonder how much they'd want to see if it dealt with their own families though. It's the same when there's a vehicle wreck they show everything right down to the blood, well if that was what happened and took out one of my family members that's far more than I want to see.

I do agree with you that they did let way too much info out about this situation. They could have just told about the little boy being found and how at such a young age he knew to let people know how to get in contact with family members, phone numbers, addresses and names. When they let out that he saw who killed his mother they just put him in danger.

In this case in which you described, YES I do agree that the media has told too much but it's really not their fault but the police because they told the media this information. The media are a bunch of people who are running around doing their job but are trying to get the first bits of information to make themselves look good because they were first at getting it. The police know this and is why they keep some of the information a secret. They should've kept the little boy's survival under wraps so no one else would be in danger. Now something else, if a criminal has it in his or her mind to kill, they're going to do that regardless of the media telling too much but yes, at times, they do tell too much.
