I rarely have coffee on my coffee table

Right now, we have a bouquet of lovely roses on it.

Right now, we have a pile of folded laundry, a half eaten bag of pretzels, some books, school binders, candy wrappers, a cereal box, a glass of orange juice, a treasure chest full of pistachios, a candle, remote controls to various things, a couple of unopened DVDs, some torn magazines that need to be thrown out...pens that probably don't work....that's about it.

That's about it? Really, steflane? That is all you got?

Yep. Don't get me started on what's underneath the table...

Fortunately, the one that we have in the house currently does not have a shelf at the bottom so we can't put anything there. But if people want to have coffee on that table, they absolutely can as it does not have anything else on it except for the flowers and maybe a couple remote controls.

Peter O'Toole has one of those iconic and soothing voices of all time.

Shakespeare was indeed writing the sonnet to a young man... of his youth but it has been used so much to woo girls and women that maybe that is how it has become to be.

That is what I figured about the origin of coffee tables. Now they are just what you said they are as well as for a lot of people to put up their feet on while watching TV.

Considering there was only one whole response, I think you'd be safe on that front.

What you have got there, mimpi, is a 'tea' table. This is used for putting tea cups on and often confused with coffee tables which are used for putting coffee cups down on. They may look identical, but have completely different names.

As noted above, yesterday we saw cocktail tables and console tables. What else would they think about. So your coffee tables can also be called your dad's office who I hope is doing quite well, mimpi.

The coffee table we ended up getting is getting used all right. A couple magazines and a few remote controls are on it even though it also has a shelf as well as two drawers.

So did you guys also come up with the cocktail table? Does it also have a conversation just like what you broke down for us here, Scoop? Chief Chippy should be recommended for jumping on to whatever opportunities for progress and success that come his way.

Unfortunately Chief Chippy died many hundreds of years ago, that's how long these tables have been around. Never got the recognition he deserved, as so often happened.

I think you can also call these tables, occasional tables too. Especially if you want to do more than place coffee cups on them. I don't mean they are occasionally tables, more occasionally used for coffee, or tea if you are having mimpi around, or cocktails if you are living it up a bit.

It would be kinda fitting if you got one with Queen Anne legs, you being Anne.

There are occasion tables. I saw some of them though they still look the same as coffee tables, cocktail tables and console tables. See what Chief Chippy has done! But I am with you as to naming these occasional tables as it more fits what they are commonly used for nowadays.

Sofa table? Now that is the first I heard of it. Which really sounds interesting. Oh, maybe it is part of a set. Like a living room set table, you know?

Pocket books - yes, they should be those tiny pamphlets that we all could fit in our pockets not the novel sizes. When I was younger, my uniform skirt pocket held a lot - like a pack of candies, pens, my hanky, marbles and other things I should not have put in there.

Undertaker - I think I am with you with the person taking someone under. I don't know.

And isn't kleenex a brand? A lot of people called items by brand names like the refrigerator as Frigidaire, etcetera.

Funny languages we have I think. Even when I translate words I have to laugh because they can be so different sometimes. It must be fun for people who work with different languages a lot, like translators? or maybe it is frustrating, if it your job?

I hope that if one is a translator that he or she is good at it and would not find it frustrating. There are way too many miscommunications already in the world.

We did check Craigslist before going to stores. Either they are not of our liking, too old, too mangled, or have been sold the minute they got posted (these are for the ones we liked!)
