Would you feel bad? I had to yell at her!

One of my next door neighbors is a sweet elderly woman. She calls periodically to see how we are. Well she called yesterday to see if I had had my baby and if we were alright. But she cannot hear. She kept asking to speak with me. I was speaking loudly trying to get her to hear me.
It was cold out yesterday, and windy. I didn't want to take my son out. I thought this wise since he is not yet a month old. When my hubby got home he took her a birth announcement. But I still felt bad about shouting at her. When the weather improves and her hubby gets well I may go over for a visit.

That would be nice of you. People are interested in babies, but I like to maintain there is no mandate to parade a baby around for all to see. Too many people exposed to the baby can, of course, expose the baby to colds.

Yeah you gotta protect the baby and you can't leave him alone. So you did what you had to do. If you make muffins or cookies maybe send a few over to her and a note explaining why you weren't able to stop and talk. I am sure she would under stand and the muffins would soothe away any hurt feelings she may have.

I understand how you feel. my grandmother needs a hearing aid and refuses to admit it. She just tells my mother that everyone is whispering. and then she'll just agree to whatever you say and when you ask her what you said she doesnt know. its pretty frusterating. I talk louder around her and i DO YELL AT HER!! when i find her at 88 out shoveling snow and carrying it across the street because she doesn't like a high s now bank on her sidewalk. oh my dear. I go over and shovel everytime all she has to do is call and see when i'm coming if she's getting antsi about the snow being there. i am there as soon as i can be after a snowfall. i got to feed dress kids and wait for my mom to get up to watch them for me. . silly elderly. Gotta love them though!

It is very hard sometimes to communicate with elderly people. My biggest pet peeve ever is having someone say "what, huh" and my grandma does it to me all the time. The last time I really offended her cause after the 10th time I had to repeat I just said "oh, forget it you won't hear me anyway" and she got really miffed. I did feel a little bad but sometimes it is hard to control the emotions that fly when someone pushes your pet peeve button so many times. And it was even harder to deal with cause she is an attention getter. She will fein problems with this or that to elicit a string of sympathetic responses when in actuality she could hear a pin drop four rooms away. But your neighbor seems like a sweet old lady and you shouldn't feel bad. If she couldn't hear you talking to her then she definitly didn't notice that you had to raise your voice. If they don't hear you they won't take offense to your yelling. I think it is a very kind idea of taking your baby to see her when it gets nice outside. Elderly people just simply adore little kids and babies. When we go to walmart I have to fight them away from my kids with a stick just to move through the isle. They want to touch their face and hair and it just wigs me out. I'm a bit of a germaphobe. Anyway, you do have a beautiful new son and daughter! I'm glad everything went ok with his delivery. And your daughter seems like quite the good big sis!
