Bird book from my husband |
| |
| My husband has been in one of those moods where he makes impulse purchases for me. Poor me, right?hehe Anyway, he just bought "The complete book for Backyard Bird Lovers" and gave it to me yesterday. I love birds. I was excited to get the book. I haven't been able to do much bird watching at the house we currently own. None of the windows are properly situated for that. I still may set up a feeder this winter but I just wish I had a better place to view them. Are you a bird watcher or feeder? What types of birds do you get? Do you feed them all winter (I hear that they will become reliant on your feeder)? Do you use a book to identify them? Do you use Binoculars? or is it right outside your window? | | | | | |

| | I am not an avid bird watcher but on occasion I have been known to watch the antics of birds. Sometimes they are just so funny. I live in Colorado and we have a large varity of birds perhaps I should take up a new hobby for the new year. Glad you finally got a gift you would enjoy. Now if only my husband could do that. LOL. | | | | | | |

| | We are designated a back yard habitat so we pay attention to all the critters including birds that use our yard. We feed the Hummers in the spring and summer, we have hawks and eagles which we don't feed. They will eat a house cat if the conditions are right. We have geese and ducks, white egrets, owls, robins, quail and many others. Our home has many windows on all sides which is fun for looking out but hard to heat and keep cool. But we love it here. | | | | | | |

| | Those impulse buys can be a good thing. At least he choose something you will like. I am a bird watcher. I use to feed them but haven't since I moved. I haven't any birdfeeders or have anything set up to do so yet. But I do plan on doing so. I live in Florida. So, I get a range of birds. But it really depends on what time of year it is. I do wish to pick up a book that which would help me idenitify Florida birds and wildlife. I think my kids would enjoy the book just as much as I do. I have never used binoculars. As I look through my camera. Which can be used like binoculars. My problem is finding the birds whn I can clearly here them with all these trees in the backyard. | | | | | | |

| | We feed the birds all year long. Just like to have them around except when they poop on the cars. LOL We have a lot of doves, sparrows and a few other breeds that are native to this locale. We also have huming birds, but they hybernate so we sop feeding them around October. We have the feeders right on our back porch so we and the cats can look out the glass sliding door and watch to our hearts content. One of my dogs gets a big kick out of waiting until there a lot of birds feeding and then jumping on the door to scare them away. I guess that is how he gets his kicks. We have our property surrounded by trees so we never have a shortage of birds for sure. They nest in our trees and hang around all year long. | | | | | | |

| | We used to have feeders, but we were horrible about keeping it filled. We'd fill it then when it was empty it would take awhile to refill it, so the birds didn't rely on us much, and we didn't get any special birds because of it. Plus I thought it was a bit messy too. The seed would end up everywhere and the poop... ugh! It is something I'd like to do again in the future, but probably when the kids are older. That way I don't have to worry about them messing with the feeders, and I'll have more time, energy, and money to keep the feeders clean and full. | | | | | | |

| | Oh yes, set up a feeder and try and give them bacon fat etc. They will become dependant on the feeder but that is o.k. it will keep them alive during this cold winter. What birds do I have outside my window? Lots of parrots that make noise at dawn and dusk both black and yellow billed, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, banana katies that live in the banana walk, pigeons, johncrows (a scavenger bird) black birds, and robins. There are probably more but that is all I have seen. No, I do not look at them through binoculars as I don't have any. I only put out food for birds after a hurricane when ther is nothing for them to eat. enjoy your gift. Blessings | | | | | | |

| | The hummingbird is the only bird that can stay still in flight - it can hover like a helicopter. The wings are going so fast that they are a blur. The4y are defensive though. One day whilst on the farm, I went too close to a nest - I didn't see it- and this ting hummingboird tried to attack me. Darting all over the place whilst I was flapping my arms too to stop it from getting to me. They are beautiful though | | | |

| | We get hummingbirds in the summer near my flowers by my front porch. The first time we had one here, I thought is was a bee or a dragonfly until I got a good look at it! | | | |

| | I used to feed them in Texas until the little shats got too destructive. It's where I saw the funniest thing, when I realized that there were "bouncer" pigeons coming around and just chasing the other littler ones away. I observed that some pigeons would perch just above and close enough to the feeders that, when the thing was crowded they would jump down on it and when all the little birds scrammed they would dump lots of seeds for the big birds on the ground. I quit, but I miss the Finches, Cardinals and Hummingbirds especially. I've seen some very beautioful birds here in Puerto Rico but I gave my binocs to my son and that was that. | | | | | | |

| | I almost forgot! Yes, I got reprimanded by some elderly lady friends for feeding them through the Winter because they said the birds would not go away as they should. | | | |

| | I love birds. I guess I get it from my Mom. She always like to watch them too. I have a bird feeder right outside my back sliding glass door so I can see it really easy. I also have a bird bath. I had a blue bird house on a light pole but we too the pole down and now I'm not sure where I will put the house. I need to figure it out before the blue birds come looking for it. We have a small pond too and we get herons and sometimes stork and other big birds. I love watching them. | | | | | | |

| | I lived in the Town for eighteen years and moved to the country side just two and a half years ago. We did not get many birds in the town so I am really fascinated with all the birds in my garden. I have a nice big kitchen window and I get to see out into the garden really well. I have a little tame Robin that follows me around when I go outside. Today I bought him "fatballs" to eat. I had no sooner hung them up when he came over to peck at them. He really surprises me that Robin. He built a nest last spring in my barbaque. I just let him be and his partner 'for a short while', had two baby Robins. They have all gone now but hes still here. Infact hes always around. We also get Thrush,s, Blue T*ts, Backbirds, Wrens and Sparrows. I put little nut feeders up in my side garden now for them as they do make a mess sometimes. I never thought I would be into birds so much as I am and I hope to see some different ones this year. I have seen an eagle (well it looked like one) flying overhead but not in my garden. | | | | | | |
