| What is with the world today? (eek! that sounded like my mom for minute!) seriously, No one seems to have common sense anymore! They can fix a computer, do math that would make your head spin and then they just don't the sense to figure out the simplest life related problem! Example: My 14 year old nephew is a genus.. a REAL one! HE has had colleges scoping him out.. and buying him gifts and sending him on trips.. since he was in the 3rd grade! At the age of 2 he was reading books... without pictures! he can do math without paper and pencil and has never even owned a calculator. He has been in every gifted class around and even corrects his teacher's mistakes. His favorite thing now is learning languages and he can speak about 5 different languages fluently! He is amazing to watch, He can take a complete computer apart in a matter of minutes and back together again in no time and re-program it.. and last week he made a taser gun out of a disposable camera! BUT He doesn't have an ounce of common sense! none! totally void! He traded a xbox for a deck of cards! He once set a building on fire to kill some bees! He stands IN THE ROAD waiting for the bus. as funny as that is.. it's true! And I've noticed that this seems to be getting more and more common.. these people go to school all their life and earn every degree known.. and can't figure out how to not get ran over waiting for a bus! We have some of the most educated idiots I've seen! lol! Apparently, God doesn't give you brains that hold common sense as well as intelligence! it's one or the other! Have you noticed this and noticed that the more educated people become the dumber they seem to be getting? If you could have your choice.. which would you prefer... common sense.. or to be a genus? | | | | | |

| | I know quite a few "educated idiots" as you call them.... but I wouldn't say it's becoming an epidemic. Where I go to school most people lack both common sense and intelligence. I'd prefer common sense any day of the week. It's what keeps you from getting hit by a bus. | | | | | | |

| | my nephew hangs out with all the brainiacs so I see A LOT of them, I suppose.. his friend is worse than he is! He has one friend that has been to my home a million times.. and when he walks in EVERY SINGLE TIME.. he looks around like he has never seen the place before! lol! I just wish I could teach him where the bathroom is, cause I'm getting tired of telling him EVERY SINGLE TIME! common sense is soooo much better! lol! | | | |

| | I remember giving a design job to a young graduate once and he slaved over the calculations for days. He then presented me with his results which called for 3.6" dia. pipework. When I asked where he was going to get 3.6" bore pipe, valves, flanges, etc. from he realised his mistake. What is perfect in theory needs to be tempered with practical facts. | | | | | | |

| | I have a theory about common sense. I think one can retrain the brain to think in a more sensical manner. I also think that the lack of common sense comes from parents DOING so much for their kids that they kids don't learn to problem solve. Now I say all that from my own life experience because I WAS one that lacked common sense. My man helped me tremendously in that area. He's also helping me to "allow" my son to learn common sense. See my mom did everything for us, not because we were spoiled or well off. We were poor, but my mother is a control freak. LOL! So I never learned to cook, clean, or manage anything. I had to learn all that AFTER marriage, again with my man's help. He, quite literally, forced me to think my way out of things. He also made me let me son think his way out of situations instead of running to his rescue and doing it for him. Now it's so awesome to SEE a 4 1/2 yr old thinking out a situation, and tackling the situation better than many teenagers do. I could give a multitude of examples of that. But my point is that I think the lack of common sense is directly related to stepping in and doing things for our kids that they need to be doing for themselves. That is all! ;) | | | | | | |

| | Give me common sense. I can always learn or hire someone to do the math for me. My son got me with his tazer camera. I watched him do it and can do it myself. People with common sense can learn to be smart. People just can't learn common sense. I see it every day. Got me to wondering Storm. Just where do YOU fit in here? I'll stick with common sense, I hope you'll join me. Nice to see you today AND with a discussion and no rules. | | | | | | |

| | My daughter is genius also, IQ is 165, she has no common sense. One day she was walking up the hill to get to the house, I saw her from the outside because I was on the back porch. I was waving, motioning for her to come in that way but she didn't even see me, I was right in front of her. She also like a boy that played bass guitar and they were making youtube videos, she was interviewing the boy and he said something about playing guitar (he didn't say bass), the interview ended with a confused look on her face questioning, "I thought you played bass?" A lot of people notice this dumb side to her and it's more cute than it is funny. I better not ever find her standing in the middle of the road waiting for a bus. | | | | | | |

| | There was an old redneck comedian named Jerry Clower. I don't know if you ever heard of him, but this guy was hilarious. I think he is actually dead now, but I am not sure. He said that alot of people are "educated beyond their intelligence." I am totally inclined to agree with him. I work in a restaurant, so I am constantly meeting new people. I have to tell you that there are some really stupid people in this world. They may make the "dean's list" every semester in college, but they barely have enough common sense to tie their shoes. You would be surprised how many people are brilliant in terms of "book smarts", yet they don't have enough common sense to to check the oil in their cars. You would also be surprised how many of these so-called "geniuses" find it easier to solve a calculus problem or write a computer program than they find it to order a chicken sandwich. Ask them if they want ketchup for their fries, and they look at you like you are talking to them in a foreign language. What I really get a good laugh from is when they pull up to the menu board in our Drive-thru at work, and although we have our entire drink selection listed on the board, they order a drink that is not listed. Another good illustration of just how dumb people really are is this...I work for a company called ZAXBY'S. ZAXBY'S (you can go to www.zaxbys.com to check it out) is a chicken restaurant that specializes in buffalo chicken wings and chicken fingers. We have a big neon sign in our parking lot that is probably 20 feet high. The sign has a huge chicken on it and in big, bright, neon letters is the statement "buffalo wings and chicken fingers" right there for everyone to see. Now you would think that a person of even below average intelligence would be able to put two and two together here and realize that we are a restaurant that sells BUFFALO WINGS AND CHICKEN FINGERS. HOWEVER, every day we have at least one dumb-a$$ come to our drive thru and ask if we sell buffalo wings. We also have at least a couple of people per week come in and try to order a hamburger! That is a CHICKEN on our sign...NOT a COW...LOL That is like going to Kentucky Fried Chicken or Chick-fil-a (SP?) and trying to order a burger. I also have no clue what has given people this idea either, but for the last few weeks, we have had people coming in asking if we have SHRIMP. That chicken on our sign is NOT riding in a BOAT! I wish I could tell you how hard it is not to say some sort of smart-a$$ comment to some of these idiots to let them know how stupid they really are. There is just no way to illustrate how tempted I am sometimes. I can tell you that sometimes I am surprised that my tongue isn't bleeding sometimes when I leave work because I have had to BITE it so many times during the night to keep from making someone look really stupid. It is funny sometimes, but it is down-right annoying at other times. My wife can't seem to figure out why I am starting to hate people. LOL The more I am around people, the more I like spending time with my dogs. People are idiots. What I really need is a job where I can sit in my home office all day and make money on my computer without having to deal with people at all... | | | | | | |
