The latest outbreak of salmonella in peanut butter products is really scary. What frightens me is that these incidents are becoming commonplace. I suppose we are now at the point where we only have to wait a few months to be informed of the latest food scare. What do you think would be the solution to this growing problem? I know that it would be more costly but I can't help but think that we need tighter restrictions at every level of the food production industry. Sure, we have had contamination scares in the past, but more and more in recent times the results are life-threatening. I have become a label-reader on everything I purchase. I want to know where my food comes from! I feel that these actions have become a must. Do you worry about where your food comes from? A local TV news show aired this report on the current situation:http://www.whiotv.com/health/18501784/detail.html#-

We all have to be more vigilant, stephcjh, where our food is concerned. I don't see that it's going to get much better.

I totally agree there are way to many of them lately and we do need to have tighter restrictions on food inspection, Maple Canada has enforced tighter restrictions since their wisteria scare last year.

I think, winterose, that this is the way of things for the future regarding our food. With food becoming more readily available from places that are far away, it is adding to the problem.

Crazy how this keeps happening. You really don't know what foods to trust anymore. Perhaps we need to go back to the simple days where we prepared all or most of our food by scratch. Even peanut butter was made this way.
