Anyone have a family member or a friend who has dementia?

My father is in the hospital, he initially went in with chest pains. It was discovered that he had a slight heart attack. He had a procedure done, and the heart is okay now. The doctors says he also has dementia. He seems not to remember things, and has illusions. He was not like this before he went into the hospital. They also discovered that he has a problem swallowing because of a cyst on his esophagus and he can not eat solid food. He is being fed through a feeding tube until he regains strength and they can remove the cyst. In the meantime, he is forgetful and very uncooperative. It broke my heart yesterday, when he was begging me for something to eat. He said that my mother had not been to see him, and it hurt, and he started crying. My mother was there the day before, he just do not remember. They have him restraint, because he tries to pull out the IV's. I am so stressed, just want to get this out. Thanks for listening.

I am a personal care attendant. A few of my clients have dementia or alzheimers. Saddens me to see them go through this. One of my clients realizes that her memory isn't what it should be. She is 94-years old. Daily she tells me the same stories of days gone by. I am finding that she is forgetting key pieces of the story she once told with such clarity. She doesn't recall what happened yesterday or 5 minutes ago. Watching her go through this really is not easy, even for me, her caregiver. My heart goes out to anyone who has a family member or friend who is suffering from this disease. Big huggers to you.
