You're probably right. I guess Starbucks would be like the rich people who didn't worry about waste like the poor and middle-classed people who always paid attention to what had to be thrown away. Once they started losing money, then they noticed what they were throwing away everyday!

I just realized I goofed...they will brew decaf if someone orders it if they're willing to wait approximately four minutes. At least that way they'll be getting it fresh.

I know, I've always said some of these people who own or run businesses are so smart, most of them have all kinds of college degrees, but I only have a high school diploma and I have more common sense than they do!

Maybe it's just because I was raised to not waste things but I'm sure if I worked in a Starbucks or any place like that and I noticed there was a substantial amount of ANYTHING being wasted on a daily basis I'd keep track of it and I'd tell someone above me. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if you're throwing away "x" amount which is worth "y" dollars in one store on average and there are "z" number of stores how much money is being thrown down the drain. Even if the business was making billions I wouldn't want to waste hundreds of millions each year needlessly!

Annie I know what you mean.
I worked 10 years for one of the largest retailers and the waste that went on there just absolutely made me sick.
They are only allowed to keep the foods in the hot case for so long and then if it doesn't get sold, instead of giving it to the employees, you guessed it...they throw it away.
The same with the dog food bags that come in open..instead of donating to an animal shelter they throw it away.
They say the reason for this is they don't want a law suit by someone or something eating bad food.
I know for a fact anything that comes in damaged or opened get thrown out.

It probably would easily reach billions, possibly hundreds of billions wasted altogether. That's sinful as far as I'm concerned!

Wow is right, Gabs! You and I should be running a major corporation; we'd probably do better than some of the idiots that are these days and I know I wouldn't need a share of that $18 BILLION in bonuses the Wall Street bosses paid themselves on our dime.

You're so right, there's terrible waste going on all over the place. I'm sure every chain like that throw away literally hundreds of millions of dollars worth of food and beverages. Look at all the fast food places, they can't always be sure how many customers they're going to get at non-meal times but they always have lots of burgers/chicken/fries and the like just sitting there getting dried out so I'm sure they throw it all away and add fresh every so often. It's a disgrace.

I agree with you. To be honest unless I'm in a super hurry I'd rather wait a few minutes to have a good fresh cup of coffee than to have some that's possibly been sitting on the warmer for hours.

Maybe they'll add a disclaimer to that offer. Even so, you wouldn't think the amount they "waste" by giving out free cups would amount to over $400 million in a year, would you? Then again, at their prices, maybe it would...lol!
