Why is it that 10.2% of Wisconsin residents are living under the poverty level, but 20% of Wisconsin residents are on Badgercare?

You have to work and get the points or whatever for medicare. My daughter will be switched from medicaid to medicare in a couple of years. I think it is automatic for disabled people that work and still qualify for disability. I'm really not sure how it works.

Unless you are in Wisconsin, then it's open to anyone regardless of income. http://www.badgercareplus.org/

I guess you should move to Wisconsin then, where even the the very rich can get on the government bandwagon.

We have something similar here called Healthwave. It's a combination of private and state medicaid plans. While it covers those on welfare it doesn't cover adults who make over $200 a month. It may have changed since the last time I checked. It has its flaws and allows the private companies to discriminate by refusing coverage to those with pre-existing conditions. Which means my daughter and other disabled are stuck with the crappy state version.

Medicare isn't necessary for the poor. The people below poverty would qualify for Medicaid. That's probably why those figures for Wisconsin look that way.

Or maybe because King Doyle and his partners in crime have opened it up to everyone who doesn't want to pay for medical insurance "regardless of income" BadgerCare Plus is a program for children under 19 years of age and families in Wisconsin who need and want health insurance. BadgerCare Plus is for all kids, regardless of income. http://www.badgercareplus.org/

Ted I am not a resident of WI. as you probably know by now I am in NC. But the Medicare program is run by the Federal Government so it is the same everywhere. Medicare is for retired and disabled people. The State run program here in NC is Medicaid, it is for the poor, and even illegal aliens in out state. Our dept of social services in this county are not allowed to ask if a person is legal or illegal. The say everyone deserves health care. The problem is most of the funds in our state are being used up by illegals, legal residents are being turned down consistantly, and it is causing a lot of bad feeling toward the Mexican people. I hope they get this under control soon, cause I really think it is going to cause an uprising by the citizens, especially since so many are losing their jobs right now. Blessings Marilyn

Badgercare is for anyone with kids who wants to participate... regardless of income. In other words, it is direct competition with private insurance companies. The state is forcing the insurance industry (and everyone else in the state) to subsidize the competition with the state. Anyone who is for this should have their job stolen by the government because that is what they are advocating.

Our Medicaid program is based on income from the whole family. I don't blame you, I would be upset too under those circumstances. Blessings Marilyn

Perhaps the poverty level needs updating! If you've ever looked into various programs you have to live on nothing but minimum wage and minimum wage only. Sadly, people can make more than minimum wage and still struggles even w/o the extras many people find being mormal like cable, internet ect.

Then the government policies should be looked into , perhaps those in position don't know that for a fact. Ordinary people should speak up if there's injustice being done. I remember a quotation which goes this way, "Evil proliferates because good men do nothing." Good luck and happy mylotting.

Yes, and we speak out against this crap a lot, but since King Doyle and the State Legislature both have the same little letter after their names, it doesn't matter.
