"An average of two rodent hairs per one hundred grams of peanut butter is allowed." - No. 20. FDA Government guidelines. I have been reading up on some of the FDA guidelines. http://www.fda.gov/ there is some pretty interesting things to read. What is allowed, and not. Recalls are there as well. Warnings too. Are you a person who wants to be informed on such things, or is ignorance bliss?

When it comes to food..ignorance is bliss...back in the 70's..I read a book...Rape of the A.P.E. (american puritan ethic) and it talks about the amount of fly parts per pound of chocolate and how our society got to be the way it is. It was amusing and educational and food for thought. an interesting read if you can find the book.

I like to be informed on things like this. But I do agree that ignorance is bliss. But with things like my food safety I think I want to know. I would like to have the choice to buy it or not and know that facts to whats in it. That's disgusting about the rodent hair I don't think I will be to into eating peanut butter ever again yuk...

Actually I did not know about hairs, but I have heard that other things are allowed to be in there. Same thing with ketchup. I try not to think about these things though. I like peanut butter and ketchup.

Ah, I'd kind of heard stories about this kind of thing before. It involved vitamins and percentage of bug carcasses. I don't know if that's an Urban Legend or not. Seems to defy belief, but you never know and I've never aggressively researched it. I suppose I don't really want to think about it.

I never thought about it, why in the world would they allow stuff like that in our food. they are supposed be their to look after all of us. I guess that the big businesses with the money are the ones that are important.
