Watching pots

Well, you know how that old saying goes, " A watched pot never boils." I swear it is true. Sometimes it takes forever for a pot to boil. One thing I have learned that might help you out it to put a lid on it while you are trying to bring the water to a boil. Keeping the lid on it will help keep the heat in more and the water boils quicker.

Adding a little salt helps also. Salt water boils at a lower temp. When I used to do a lot of cooking I got to know my stove and the settings for simmer and boil and so forth. If I knew I needed to boil some morsels I give it plenty of time to get going so I wouldn't be in a rush! Good Luck! tdemex

My mother used to say water boils slower when you're watching:P
She said that because, since I was a child, I wanted to stay in front of the pot, watching, waiting... getting bored, yeah:)
But I can't help it and I prefer staying there, watching... I kind of enjoy it:)

hi bamakelly, my dear freind, i fully agree with you that it is really very very to watch a pot of water to boil. and i have seen this that when we wait for it to boil, it will take more time, becasue we are continuously looking at it, and are bored becasue there is nothing to do, but to watch it, so it give us a feeling that it takes long for water to boil, if we sitthere. but if we go out, we get ourselves engaged in something, and time vanishes. so we feel that it has boiled fast, which is not so.m yes, but if we keep it close and will not allow the heat to go or move out, then also it will boil fast.

I don't stand there watching a pot of water, I have been cooking long enough to have a good idea when water boils, I just go back and check.
