Hi everyone, I have MS, I was diagnosed back in 1996 but I have been having symptoms since the early 80's that were ignored by doctors.
Yesterday I starting getting a strange shock like feeling off and on through out the day. As I described it to my doctor, it felt like my cell phone was vibrating and my entire body was feeling it. It wasn't too painful.
Last night at bowling I realized that moving my neck was causing the shocks. So I called my nerologist this morning and she said that it was Lhermittes which is defined by a brief, stabbing, electric-shock-like sensation that runs from the back of the head down the spine, brought on by bending the neck forward.
Yup that is it! There is nothing they can do for it, just have to live with it and try not to move my neck. So, so far the MS has taken my ablitiy to walk long distances, part of my sight and now I can't move my neck.
I try to be possive about the MS, but man this one really sucks!

I am SO sorry to hear that. There is nothing they can do to stop it?? I have a co-worker with MS and his doctors have been experimenting with different meds for him and it seems to be going well. Is there a local support group you can join? It might help to talk to other people who are going through the same thing. Try to find an upbeat group not a depressed and mopey group.
Sorry about your diagnosis......

Hello! I've had MS for over 23 years, so maybe I can help. I've had that many times. It does get better (with time). What I've done: Get your doc to prescribe a mild muscle relaxant ..... I can't remember the name of it, but a mild one does help. Also, taking a "kind of" warm shower will help. I know, the heat of the shower would wipe me out, but I just try to take as warm a shower as I can, then lay down for a nap.
Another major thing that helped me ..... Get a massage ..... a professional one ... someone who will not massage too deep, but will gently but firmly press just enough, especially in the neck area.
I hope this helps! Like I said, it will get easier ....... Just take it one day (one hour, or one minute) at a time!
