Economist speak out against Stimulus Plan

United States
February 6, 2009 10:12am CST
Obama said last night that leading ecomonist support their econmonic stimulus plan. Well they did not take kindly to that. A group of leading economist got together and took out a full page in the wall street journal saying how they thought the bill is too big, wasted too much money and did not do the right things to actually stimulate the economy. They felt most of projects in there would do nothing for the economy but would add to our debt and inflation. They called this bill (as written) wasteful and irresponsible. What do you think?

Agreed. A complete and total waste. It appears to me, that now that the dems are in office, they are trying to push thru as many of their own interests as quickly as they can. Most of the stuff on the bill has nothing to do with the economy, just the liberal agenda

exactly. But of course they are not going to sell it to the american public that way....they are saying pass it or the economy will fall apart. Very little in that bill will do anything for the ecomony. They ARE LYING TO US. Their agenda means more to them than anything else. SO they do not care if they waste billions and cause our national debt to sky rocket and inflation to go up again. They are determined to get our way. NO matter who it hurts.

Almost like blackmail; "If you people want your stimulus package, your going to pass this other stuff right along with it...whether you like it or not!!!" Scary

Lilwonders, Hopefully more and more economists will get on board and debunk the idea that this "stimulis" porkage will stimulate anything but inflation! I hope every private citizen in DC (if there are any)will invest in a Wall Stree Journal and deliver it personally to the big white house at 1600 Pennsylvania avenue!

Lilwonders- I would call my Congressman in a heartbeat but I am in the UK. Seriously thinnking about trying to call him for help with my husbands visa. If I do I will have a right go at him about the stimulus and also Obamas Aunt who is illegally in our country living on welfare.

Well done for the economists. Their statements show that Obama is not against lying for his own ends. I hope someone hand delivers him a copy of the Wall Street Journal to him. As each day goes by I regret more and more saying that I would give him a chance and see how and what he does. Lying is not good in my opinion. Most people here in the UK were happy to see him elected but as the days go by they too are becoming disgusted with him and changing their minds.

I think a lot of people are starting to second guess him and congress. This has been a wake up call for all of us. Personally I did not vote for him... but once he was elected I was will to give him a chance....I don't know now. He is out there making speeches trying to sell a really bad plan.

hopefully the president gets the wall street journal. It would be good for him and all of congress to read it.

I agree totally and find it interesting that our government is not choosing to listen to them.

Lol, haven't we said that for weeks now? Don't need to be an economist to see it doesn't work. Obama's problem is that he took advice from economists, took bits here and there, put them in a blender, added a dash of pay-off to his buddies, a sprinkle of pork... and then he expected all of us to swallow it like it's candy... and as every bad cook, he didn't follow the recipe and forgot to add an important ingredient (like the very unpopular stuff he has to do to get the economy back on track; I'm sure those advising economists gave him plenty of advice in that regard, too).. now the candy tastes like bad medicine the doctor prescribes which he knows won't work but he thinks he needs to hand his patient something. I'm glad the economists are speaking up. That whole package will make matters worse. I don't see much overall stimulation anymore... I only see a few select pockets lined yet again.

Hopefully the economists start screaming it at the top of their lungs. Everyone needs to realize how bad this bill is.
