My dog is ruining his toys   email this discussion to a friend?

My dog, Secret, is bringing all the stuffing of his soft toys that came from the pet shop. My dog, Magic, has chewed up one of my son's toys. If Secret continues to ruin all his toys soon he will have none left. Perhaps he is bored because it is snowy outside.

Does your dog ruin any of his or her toys?
If so what do you do about that?

Buy the dog rubbery chew toys and rawhide that he can not break, or are not very easy to break.

I don't want my 20 month old son that is able to crawl to get hold of raw hide. Secret would chew a plastic toy in an hour or two and he won't touch the rubbery sort of dog toys.

My husky-collie cross destroys anything he possibly can be it his mine or something from somewhere i dunno. I dont give him stuffed toys as he tears up his bedding (getting tired of that) so i buy him things like the rubber kong toys or the big chewy bones and bulk packs of tennis balls. He doesnt destroy them near as fast.

My bischon-shih tzu loves her stuffed toys - they last ages she still has one from 3 years ago (her original) that she carries around and sleeps with.

My dog used to ruin all her toys too. She's a large dog and nothing ever seemed to last lol. I don't have that problem anymore. Now I get her those large rawhide chew bones to gnaw on, and I also bought one of those Kong toys. She seems to have a greater need to chew than to play with toys. (And if you really think about it, those toys they play with always get more chewing than actual playing lol)

If you've never seen a Kong chew toy, they're made out of really hard chewable rubber. It's kind of shaped like a bee-hive and has a large hole on one end, and a smaller hole on the other. When she was little I started her with these Kong thingies...I put a little dab of peanut butter (or something) in it, and then took a regular treat biscuit and pushed it in. It takes them a long time to get the biscuit out of it, and my dog tosses it about and plays until she finally gets the treat out. These Kong toys are soft to their teeth and gums, yet they're virtually indestructable!

I'd reccomend to anybody to get one for their dog, no matter what their size or breed. I used to have to worry about her chewing other stuff while I was gone (when she was a pup) and then I'd fill a couple of these Kong things and she never chewed anything in the house again. I gave up on those stuffed toys a long time ago:-) They're just not meant for the constant chewing action that so many dogs need.

What kind of dog do you have? I have a lab whose mouth is super super powerful, he can chew up the toy as possibly as he can. He is still puppy though, I think I will need to get him some stonger toys when he gets bigger.

I don't give my dogs stuffed toys anymore as they just get ruined too quickly so I instead get thm the hardwearing type and they last ages! Until of course they lose them in the field!

My young mixed breed dog Change not only takes the stuffing out of her toys but then tries to eat the rest of the toy. I got her from an animal shelter and believe she was on the streets for a while fending for herself. Her toys are not the only thing she eats so I have a bigger problem. She eats the stuffing out of down comforters, pillows, her bed, the cats bed and my bigger dog's bed. I cannot let her out of my site and when I leave her I put her in a safe place that does not contain anything she can chew and destroy. She has decreased this behavior greatly as she becomes acclaimated to my house and I become the alpha dog in the family. She has had her stomach pumped twice for eating things that left in her system could have caused great problems. Most days we do okay.

My dog, Kingston, is rough on toys. We have to get the strongest toys supposedly made for dogs and he chews them up in no time. He loves tugging ropes and rubber stuff, but the ropes especially get destroyed in minutes after getting it. He really likes tennis balls and for some reason, he makes those last except for ripping the fuzz off. We have to get real tennis balls though, not the pet store kinds because he can chew through those quicker. He really likes playing fetch, so I guess that's why he makes tennis balls last. He also has a large rubber dog tire that he loves. It's held up to him pretty good.
