Early this morning, Fridfay Feb6th over Minneapollis Minnesota the moon gave off this blue and brownish orange glow around it. This was caused by cool air above with warmer air below the cold air reflecting off the ice crystals in the air I believe. Did you have this bluseish moon at all?

Hey Grandpa Bob! That's incredible! What a shot! I have never
seen a real Blue Moon in my entire life! That is absolutely
beautiful! What a sight that must have been! I didn't know
that it had to do with cool air above warmer air and all that
stuff! What a smart man you are GB and one heck of a photographer!

It was a lot brighter blue and a clearer but this camera can't do a close up from a long distance away. But it does look somewhat like it did at the time of the shot. It was so bright and awesome looking really. Thanks also.

yes, opal. our friend here is truly a lover of nature. and he is so blessed that he lives in an area which even feeds all the more his love for it.
neither had i any knowledge before that water in gaseous form can do so much play with colors. yet, we had all been told long ago in our science class how colors come about through the prism acting in water and/or light.

I have seen a blue moon, yes, Grandpa Bob, but although I study the Moon in all her phases, I've never known what caused it to be blue. Thank you for that information and for sharing your lovely pic.
I would like, in return, to share one of my many pics of the Moon. This one I found particularly dramatic looking because of the cloud around it as it comes up over the local church.
I'll pose you a question now... did you ever see a Blood Moon... as in total eclipse? There's no experience like it. The silver of the moon becomes gradually covered with a dark blue blanket, then goes dark and subsequently reappears a blood red. It stays that colour for a while, then turns orange through gold, back to silver. I wrote a poem about the eclipse I watched. It took hours, and I was freezing on that March night but there was something that held me there to watch it right through. I love the Moon and its magickal powers!
Brightest Blessings Grandpa Bob.

The building is my local church. It stands on a hill just across from where I live. It's lovely inside... not that I'm a churchgoer but I love to look around churches and old buildings. At night, it's lit up by a couple of big spotlights, so it looks quite impressive up there on the hill. The first part to be built dates back to Saxon times, then the Normans added a bit, and the tower was added in the early 20th century. Talk about a mix! lol.
If you'd like to see a pic of it taken in the daytime, then please shout. I'll be happy to post one!
As for the total lunar eclipse, I'm rather fond of the time when it's at its deepest red colour... that's a site to behold.. almost copper colour, but then, there are so many different stages which are awesome to watch that I'm sure I could choose others. It fascinated me the way it stood out in 3D when it was darkened. Amazing!!!

This happened very early this morning. At 11 it was a normal looking moon. But arouind 3:30 it got this blue ring around it. I loved it. Wished I had a better digital camera for shots like this one.

the moon fascinates me anyway, and this is a very good pic. i live in england and the first night of our snow on sunday night/ early hours of monday morning, when i looked outside , it seemed just like daylight- every thing was so clear, reflected by the snow on all the houses, trees etc., it literally glowed outside. it was stunning and if i had thought about it i wished i had taken some pix and been able to share them with mylot. i must admit though i havent seen a blue moon, it always seems icy white. but a few years back we did have a red tinged moon, which was something to do with the atmosphere, it was quite well publicised in the uk. thanks for all your pix grandpa bob, they are always worth waiting for.

this discussion of yours, grandpa bob, reminds me of that beautiful song of old 'blue moon'. until now, it is a favorite of mine.
personally, i think i have never experienced seeing a blue moon literally yet. it must give one that very cool feeling seeing that bluish moon. it is what light blues generate in a person who gets to have a hold of such a color coming from nature.
thanks for this beautiful discussion that you have come about, grandpa bob. it wakens some nice old memories.

I have seen a ring around the moon and I have seen a glow around the moon also. I love looking at the moon and and making up stories of what the man in the moon is doing.

Hi Grandpa Bob! That is awesome! Very enchanting to see such a beautiful sight! I have seen orange tinge and brownish and grayish ones but not this cool blue. It is really so nice to behold such a sight.
Take care and have a great day!

That's a great picture! I've seen the moon look so many different ways. I love it when moisture in the air creates auras and different colors around and across the moon. I don't get out much at night anymore, but if any phenomenon would catch my eye at night it was the moon.

That sounds very pretty. I think I have seen something like that in Indiana. I did not see the moon last night or today though.

Hmmm, sounds very pretty, but I missed it if it was that color here. I will have to submit this response and to be able to see what you captured in your picture, but I'm sure it's a great pic as always.

hello grandpa bob
i have heard of the old saying before "Once In A Blue Moon" lots of times before, in meaning that somebody would do something or something would happen once in a blue moon. lol and thanks so much for sharing that awesome looking photograph of the moon with all of us here at Mylot. i do not believe that i have ever seen the moon glowing with blue around it like that before. but i do have to say that i have seen the moon glowing with a white or yellowish color before.
take care and have a beautiful afternoon.

I have never seen one to be honest, coz I live in a tropical country, so chances of this happening is nil. It looks lovely, I wish I could take a photo of a moon like that someday. Thanks for sharing.
