Should condominiums lift the ban on pets?

Why the ban on allowing pets on condominiums? I guess this creates a problem on pet owners. I understand that it's for the safety of the people in the condo but i think it's just a matter of being responsible pet owners. Why include a clause in the contract? Should they lift the ban?

Hey Mod-are U bringin' SMEXY bak? I thought u were...anyway, I live in apartments that ban pets. Now, you can have a goldfish, or a bird, but no cats n' doggies. I think it's because they are newer apartments and don't want the berber carpet all torn to hell. I know pets reduce high blood pressure and are great for people who aren't allergic. I would have to own a parrot or something. Or maybe a Mr Biggleworth(hairless cat).

Is Humpy Dumpy banned on apartments too? What's a smexy?

Smexy is what we say sometimes to mean "Sexy." It's a joke in a way. like, "Gee Mod, Lookin' smexy today." And my apartments have a zero tolerance policy on Humpy Dumpy.

I can understand why some apartments and condominiums ban, or put restrictions on pets living at their properties. As adorable as they are, there are issues that many property managers have a hard time curbing. People who let their pets roam free may be causing difficulties for other residents, or property damage. Even indoor-only pets can cause noise and/or odor problems. Instead of dealing with the potential problems, some property managers simply ban them. As a pet owner, I would not consider living in such a place, my pets are part of my family. It may take a little looking, but there must be pet-friendly alternatives. Especially for indoor pets.

Sorry, I wouldn't go if Tukay couldn't. You wouldn't do that to Moochie either, would you? He's never forgive you!

Most condo units have airconditioning, carpets, thick curtains and the like. It hard if these things catch any fleas. Condominiums are being sure of the safety of the tenants right away, they dont to waste time asking if tennats are allergic to animals. It would be very noisy to hear barks on hallways or in the next unit.

Hey modstar! I personally don't feel that it is fair to have a "no pet" clause in condominiums! I have cats and they are indoor cats! Why should that matter to anyone? I don't see that this should be a problem to the condo unit at all! I can understand if they really didn't want to allow dogs, althought I don't agree with that either! I think that they will lose plenty of good tenants by having this clause!

Yup, you are right. Taking care of them and disciplining them is already our problem. Now if they harm others then its our problem too. That easy. Just don't take away our right to own a pet.

Before I was married I lived in apartments and although I am an animal lover the only pet I was allowed to have was a budgerigar, which I love but I really wanted a cat. Needless to say when we finally bought a house I got pets galore! Two cats, a dog and the bird. I think they should allow pets in apartments. There could be certain clauses such as responsible pet ownership. Obviously you would not keep an Alsatian in one bed apartment as would be mean to the dog, but what is wrong with an indoor cat for instance? My cats live strictly indoors and are very clean. I think within reason, such as limiting the number and size of the animals, pets should be permitted everywhere because they are a joy in anyone's life.

I think that's the solution. No big pets. No reptiles and no insects.

Hi modstar; I have never lived in a condominium, so I can't really comment from a first hand experience point of view. I have lived in apartment complexes, which I believe are more or less the same thing. Living in that environment, there were many issues as we shared many of the same things. The halls, steps, elevators, entrances, etc. Often times it was an inconvenience, and sometimes we would have to put up with littered hall, stairways, and elevators. Under those circumstances, I believe that if everyone were permitted to own a pet, it would magnify the problems, and add on more. I think the freedom of owning pets in that type of environment will open the doors to many complicated problems. For those reasons, I believe condos should maintain their rules of not allowing pets in order to protect tenants from the potential problems changing the rules will invite. The american dream is to own a house. If you strive toward that goal, then you can have as many pets under your own roof as you would like without injecting them into the lives of others.

Funny here because the dream is to own a condo even if they already own a house. Ah huh, so i guess it's more than just the rabies.

^_^ Mabuhay ka!.... modstar!.... It depends of a condominium environment if it is really good for having a pet or a pet friendly condominium. If then it is really good for have a pet, owners should always follow the condominium regulations and be responsible pet owner. My auntie lives at Pacific Plaza at Ayala, they don't have big dogs but small dogs like chuwawa and a persian cat. And fishes. They usually have big dogs but because of high maintenance they exchange from small pet dogs like chuwawa. Others condo unit owners have pet dogs and some are really big dogs. ^_^ Salamat!.... and Enjoy!.... myLot!....

That is why I never like living in condos. I prefer to live in a house with big compound as I am a dog lover and can't imagine myself living without my pets in one roof. I think management of flats and condos have reasons not to allow pets to be in their premises. It is for the benefit of the rest of the tenants who wants peace.

I am a big animal lover. I don't even eat them. HEHE I have cat, was never a dog person, but still. I feed the local strays around here too. I live in a house but I grew up in apartment buildings. I think it would be a shame for a person to not be able to have a pet in their homes. There has been proof that they help some people with depression and are welcome companions to many people. I think as long as you are careful with them while you are out (dogs on a leash) then why not be allowed a pet. I would think that the ban should be lifted!

I do not live in a condominium and I do not have pets. I guess I might have an opinion on the matter when I get me a condominium and other people have pets that bother me. Or if I had a pet and people kick me out of their condominium for that. Cheers!!!

I guess it all depends. If the pet owner is a responsible one I cant see any problem about it. But if he is not, this may posssibly cause danger or even sickness to the occupants of the condo units especially the children.

I think they should lift this ban. I also think that there should be a clause that if the animal is disruptive to others, the least can be broken. This helps to solve some of the complaints associated with this ban. A clause should also state that the renter is responsible for all damage caused to the property. This way, there will be no problem with those who worry about damage caused by pets. I think the ban should be lifted because everyone should have the opportunity to own a pet and should not be restricted from doing so because of their living situation.
