Most of my family, except for me and my husband, has been battling the flu. And so they did not come over on Tuesday, the day before my birthday because my daughter-in-law's father's in the hospital, and the rest have the flu. So my younger son dropped by - and brought me a Best Buy gift card. Now my husband and I were talking about getting the next dvd of our favorite show Lost. i mean that is a no brainer.
And I would rather get the whole set as gifts or presents rather then pay for it out of my own pocket and find they have this stupid boring ending.
I was also debating in saving it up and putting it towards the MAcbook Pro I want.
So I was wondering if you get a gift card from a computer place or a dvd place, what do you use it for? To upgrade your present collection, or get something else, or just save them until you have quite a few?

I have gotten gifts that are really money wasters. And sometimes I do not know what to get anyone, especially if they have everything they need.

Hard to get me something I like. So I usually get a gift card.

It depends on my situation. Right now, my computer is about two years old so it will be years before it is replaced. I would probably buy a computer program.

I'd probably use it to buy a movie or two that I have wanted to watch. In today's economic climate, I wouldn't put it away for ant length of time, you never know how long the company might be in business.

Best Buy and Future Shop are safe. And I do not want to buy something that is second best, when I can get the dvd my favorite show in the Fall.

Saving them up may sound like a great idea however these gift cards do some time expire so be watchful of the expiry date.

Sears has a one year limit, but Futureshop and Best Buy do not. I had Futureshop cards for three years and it was not until my husband did they "They're going to expire!" panic, that I bought something with them. I really did not need to cash them then. Could have waited until I got some more money and used them as tax for that big item I planned to get.

I save them then use them to buy Christmas presents or ones for birthdays! I never receive any but I earn a few doing surveys and stuff and pile them up in Amazon so I can spend them for the holidays. Saves me quite a bit!
I got one for Christmas, though, at JC Penney's. I still have quite a bit on it because I'm waiting for them to have a chenille bedspread at the outlet store.
I save the gift cards not because I'm unselfish but because I'm horribly frugal and also there isn't much that I want or need.

I usually save mine unless there is a good show that I want to have on DVds and it is no use just getting just one. My computer has about a six year life span, so I would rather save to get a new computer, however I have a husband who thinks that there is a time limit of one month so he is always trying to get me to get rid of them right away. He did with my Future Shop Gift cards so I bought some flash drives, but I wanted to just put them away for the Macbook Pro.
Now they gave upgraded it and now I have to save my own money for it.

It was not me, it was my son and daughter-in-law and my granddaughter and they got it from my younger son and his fiance. I am hoping that they come over to fix up the basement. I am hoping to get a piano keyboard put down there.

I hope everyone gets over the flu soon. That's not a fun thing to have. When I get gift cards I like to spend them right away. However, when I get money, I like to put it into the bank, and let it build up some interest. With the stuff that's been going on in my life, it's nice to have a bit of money saved up.

I am waiting for someone to give me a Best Buy or Future Shop $500 gift card, but so far that has not happened.

Go for the MacBook. Lost is in reruns and you can always tape it (SciFi channel in the 'States and Space in Canada).

Going to do both. Anyway I will wait until this season is over and maybe one of my sons will give us the next season of Lost, his birthday comes around the time when the dvd is being made.
