Getting Ready For Spring |
| |
| Well at the store Sunday I bought my seeds and seed starter pots for some of my gardening. Attatched is a photo of these items. I bought, cucumebrs, zuchinni, green beans, yellow beans, sweet banana peppers, and cauliflower. This is just the start for my garden. Most other things I plant outdoors after threat of frost passes. These all start as seedlings. Still have to get some tomato seeds as well. Do you start things indoors for your garden as well? When do you plant outdoors? Most time I get things in the ground mid to late May at the earliest due to the frost etc here in Minnesota. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | Ready For Seedlings | | | | |

| | The luck of the South so to say huh? I am lucky to get my ground dug, tilled, and or turned by the end of May most years. But I have been known to kill a few things by planting outdoors in April. HAHAHAHA! I've various other seeds to buy yet as well including bell peppers, sweet corn, and maybe some acorn squash this year. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | | |

| | I am excited to plant this year. I have lots of room and don't have to worry about kids coming in the yard since we moved. I do have to worry about all the wildlife though! I may end up feeding the wild. We will see! | | | |

| | I will also start getting my plants started shortly, and like you i usually don't start planting out side until around may. and the things that i do not get started inside i usually get at the flea market. I am so glad that it is almost time to get started again, it is one of my favorite things to do, and i love eating all those fresh vegetables, and i think this year along our fence line i am going to start some blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry, plants so i can have them every year. | | | | | | |

| | These seeds are from American Seed CO. Walmart sells them early in the year around this time. Being each pack is just 20 cents, they sell out fast so I try to get them early as possible. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | | |

| | Spring??? Where??? I am looking out the window...it has been snowing since 5:17 a.m....and it is -3 Celcius, right now! Yesterday, I was out in short sleeves, enjoying 11 Celcius (52 F) and getting the gardens turned over...and dreams of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini...and squashes dancing in my head! I have them all started (incl. cukes) and usually we can plant by the end of March, middle of April! I have lived here for 30 years...and NEVER seen a winter like this, that just WON'T quit! So the garden, right now...is just a figment of my imagination! I always start nightshade family plants indoors, as here, they need a longer growing season, than what we normally have! And all I grow are seeds from plants of the previous season! I am wondering if your growing season is longer than ours! Well, Grandpa Bob...know that there are a lot of us envious! Cheers! | | | | | | |

| | Been the same here in Minnesota. It's been in the 40s for a few days now snow is on the horizon as well. In 1991 on Halloween day we got 48 inches of snow in a 24 hour period. Worst storm since the early 1900's for Minnesota. The city was shut down a few days from that storm. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | | |

| | Very rare to get spring frost down here and when we have had gardens in the past we didn't have to have start plants in the house. My son would just get the ground ready and go get the plants and or seeds and put them in the ground. I bet you are really getting excited. | | | | | | |

| | I almost bought some seeds too today, but I want bush green beans and they didn't have them. I will buy some seeds and also some plants that are already started. I have cats and no place that I could start the plants without them getting into them. They like to get in some of my big plants, they killed my aloe vera plant by laying on it. Its fun to them, they think the big pot of dirt is for them to lay in and play with. Its getting that time of year, I love seeing the stores getting ready for spring. | | | | | | |

| | Hi GRANDPA BOB, I haven't started my tomato plant yet and I can't grow anything else as my garden is so small and mostly concrete so I have to grow just tomatoes like last year but I will be doing it again as I had lovely ones last year and I shall get the seeds from the tomato itself rather then going out and buying the seeds. | | Hey Grandpa Bob! I am so jealous of hearing you talk about starting your garden again! I so wish that I could have a garden! Is there anything that would grow totally inside an apartment? I really want to grow something so badly! I want to have fresh veggies too! The soil outside my apartment is so bad! Even if I did plant something it would never live! We can't even grow grass here! Is there any type of veggie that is hearty enough to grow inside? Please help me! | | | | | | |

| | Potted spices and herbs work great in an apartment. Things like chives, oregeno etc. Always nice to have fresh herbs to pick and chop up for a recipe. Tomatoes can grow indoors but they need a LOT of sunshine. I had lousy soil outside as well. Takes a bit of work digging up the area and adding new dirt and manure and nutrients. But now my garden beds are so good to me. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | | |
