Does Detroit show us what is in store for Us under a Democrat? email this discussion to a friend?

Detroit is a city that appears to be dying. The state of Michigan has spent much trying to keep it alive and with the city has given its residents every thing they need. Not too long ago Detroit was the Murder Capital of the country. The state, federal and private business tried to bring it to live with a major Urban renewal project to being business and Conventions to Detroit. They even held a Super Bowl there and the city is still dying. Now looking at the Real Estate Market you can now buy an $88,000 house for $75.00. Detroit has been lead by a series of Democrat Mayors and the State has been controlled by Democrats. Is this an indication of what we will face if we follow the path of massive government spending and control over more and more?

And yet they still vote for Democrats... Why?

If the current administration isn't working why would you vote for the same one? Does that make any sense?

They are called roof sitters. They are the people who know the storm is coming and wait for someone to come and save them. After the storm hits these are the people who sit on the roof and wait for someone to come and save them. Once the flood waters have receded they will sit and wait for someone to come and clean up. After all that is what we have taught them with the War on Poverty and the Great Society. Don't do anything for the Government will take care of you. So they sit there and keep voting the way they are told and wait for the government to take care of them.

I'm sorry but I still don't understand. I might never understand. I was not raised to sit by and wait for assistance. I, and all my siblings, were taught to work hard and earn what we have. It may not be as much as what Donald Trump has but we were all taught to work for a living - not sit and wait for the government to "rescue" us. So is this something that is taught? Is it a mentality just for Democrats?

What you were taught used to be considered the American Dream. Now it seen=ms that we are told to look to the government and not to ourselves to improve our lives. Keep working hard and it will pay off. At least you can hold you head up high knowing that you are not a leach living off others.

Pretty much.

Star Parker thinks the inner cities are a snapshot of what America will look like as a result of the democrats.

I think she makes a good point.

How many times have we heard this only to be told that it is not their fault that we the rich working people are to blame by such greats as Rev. Jackson or Rev. Sharpton or some brillant liberal like Rep Rangle or Speaker Pelosi.

I have forwarded the article to my friends even those few who voted for President Obama.

Bob, Detroit as a city, has alot of problems including the people that run it, and their reliance on manufacturing (which has suffered in every state under Bush). One thing that you forgot to mention is the fact that the state legislature has been run by republicans, and the former govenor was a republican (what is happening in Michigan doesn't just start in a few years, it has been decades in the making).

The whole key to growing any urban area is jobs, and in Detroit they haven't focused on alternative industries because of their reliance on the Big Three. I think that Barack's alternative energy ideas are very important to the country, and to our national security. This could also help lower energy cost for all Americans, and free up more money to spend on other things. What is happening in Detroit was caused by close minded government leaders, corporations, and people. The Big Three have been afraid of all of the cost to upgrade their cars to new fuels, and energy sources. Everytime they talked about these new ideas you would hear the car makers come out with a huge number of how much it would cost to convert over to new energy sources. In business today, you have to open to all options, and have an open mind, or you should just close your doors right now.

You failed tomention the Labor Unions as part of the problem. I see the Auto Companies producing cares that people do not want to buy but theya re forced to produce because of the government pressure. The switch to Unleaded cars took ten years and I don't know how many millions of dollars to complete. How much research and development money was spoent trying to meet all the governmnet regulations and at time conflicting. It is not so much the political party it is the tax and spend that is killing us and both parties are guilty.

Bob, one of things that no one remembers is the fact that Bush increased the amount of money a company could write off for vehicle expenses back in his first term. This is why you see so many $50,000 + SUV's and luxuary cars on the road. Now, these companies are struggling to get by, or have closed their doors, and no one can afford these vehicles (I actually saw a top of the line SUV that was the same price as a top of the line Corvette). That wasn't the Union's fault, that was the company, and the governments.
