Maybe I should have joined the Mafia - just kidding 0-Income tax time

Every year it is the same thing, my husband does the income tax and he has to complain. Before it was telling to watch what you make because that will put us in a higher tax bracket, now he complains of all the forms I have - he insisted I clear up my registered retirement plans all at once, not one at a time like I suggested - I told him that we might have to pay this time because of that. No matter what, there is always something, and because of what I was told when he was working, not to make too much, I am so nervous around tax time that my heart just pounds and now for the first time, we will have to pay and we were wanting to work on our basement. At least he does not have to do his mother's income tax because she's dead and all the money from her estate has been distributed. At least in the Mafia, you just get shot at. Do you hate income tax time as much as I do?

I do hate income tax time as much as you do - except I don't have a heart problem like you do. I think you should calm down before you get yourself all worked up and sick! I know it can be frustrating and upsetting. I usually wait until the very last minute but this year I decided to try and take care of it a little earlier. So I dropped it off at the accountant's yesterday. Please don't get sick over the taxes - it's just not worth it. Good luck!

Heart disease runs in my family and also my blood pressure goes up when I am upset. I have to be calm. At least that is over, but I was going to tell my husband of myLot earnings so he could include them. I did pressure him to include my charitable donations. So we do not have to pay as much as was planned. But I really hate paying income tax.

I'm with you - I hate paying income tax also and try to get out of it any way I can. We'll soon see what my accountant says I owe this year...

I was thinking that maybe we could get our younger son, the business manager, to do it for us or that friend of mine. At least, they will not make me feel so guilty because I have three bank accounts. Well it's done for this year.

Yes, I do hate that dreaded time of year. I am self employed and so I have a lot of write offs and I have to get it all done in my financial porfolio and so it is a lot of work for me. Once I have it all ready I send it all to my sister and she does the filing for me. She owns her own business doing income taxes and bookkeeping but I do the book- keeping end of it myself. Since I am self employed I have till the end of June to finish mine. I have just about everything ready to send over to my sister. Than she will probably put it aside and do the ones that have to be done by April 3oth before she does mine. So I won't know for awhile if I have to pay and how much. I am sure I will have to pay some but I don't think too much.

Everytime we do income tax, I remember the times when we were first married and before when I boarded and heard the message "if you make too much the income tax will take away everything you have." so I had imaginings of the income tax people taking what I had left after taxes.

Well, it is not my favorite pastime, but I try not to let the IRS get my dander up. And you better watch out on that mafia idea, they are always brought down for tax evasion!

I was just kidding. It is just that I wondered how many joined the Mafia, because their spouse said, "Income tax time again. What is this? Another donation?" or "you know if you had not spent all that money, we could have saved $1000 on our tax returns!"

I use to dread that time of year, but now i do not have to file taxes because in Texas if you are on social security or disability you do not have to file, unless you have a lot of money, which i don't.....I really do not miss those days either...

Well I get Canada Pension and Old Age Security and we have to declare it. Also we have to declare our bank interest if it is more then ten dollars, then there was the registered retirement plan that my husband insisted we withdraw all at once. So this time we had to write a check for almost $90 on his.

I don't have to deal with inome tax reporting anymore since I have a small business. my accountant takes care of all kinds of tax reporting at year end. he also gives advices when we need so pretty much what you said is true. don't earn too much or you will pay. plus if it's retirement, why do you have to take them all anyway? if the market soars, you will lose out. and in this economy, anything can happen.

I hate it. I keep putting off doing it and I know I shouldn't. I just finished paying off my tax obligation for 2007. I resent paying taxes to bail out banks and automakers and people who bought more house than they can afford when these taxes are killing me financially. I don't mind helping to pave the roads and supporting the libraries, etc., but my taxes are misused and I feel I am very overtaxed!

I really hate it as well. Like years ago, when the Liberals were in power here in Canada, there was this family who were wealthy who got into trouble, did not pay their taxes, etc. and I think they skipped the country. Anyway soon after that we were told that any money we make or found (even if it is a penny picked up from the sidewalk) has to be reported as income. Wait a while, and when any of you down there take bottles or papers in for cash, you will have to get a receipt for income tax purposes.

Well, That is why it is best to let the professionals handle it that is what my family does. We would be lost without professionals like H&R Block and others like them. I am sorry that you will have to probably pay. Why don't our husbands listen to use?

Actually, I love it, that's why I became a CPA. I really like doing taxes and helping people stay out of trouble with theirs. I don't care for the long hours I'm working right now - 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. But it doesn't last that long and then we're back to normal work!
