i think that i have used too much peroxide! |
|
hello everybody here at Mylot.
i think that i have used too much peroxide for too long of a time in rinsing my mouth with it when that my gums flared up on me. i was using straight peroxide like three to four times a day, for probably almost two weeks. due to doing that, now i have a small open sore on the roof of my mouth. ouchie!
so tell me, what should i do now?, wait and see if the sore closes itself back up? i really do not want to go to the doctor. i hate going to the doctor. should i rinse my mouth in warm salt water?
thanks for sharing and have a beautiful afternoon.

1. rocketj1 (2217) | 10 months ago | I'm a former dental assistant. It is ok to rinse occasionally with a diluted peroxide rinse for a short time. Peroxide has a very drying effect and can actually aggrevate the situation if used for longer than that. You may try a little salt water but even that will aggrevate things if you go very long. The best thing you can do for your gums is to have regular cleanings (built up tartar will make gums inflammed) and floss daily. Flossing will be painful for the first few days if you are not a regular flosser. Keep it up and things will improve.
If you simply have a canker sore (which can actually be very painful) there are over the counter ointments you can use.
Inflammed gums can also be a sign of other medical conditions such as diabetes. See your dentist and/or your doctor. You are putting off the inevitable.

TnWoman (1553) | 10 months ago | so would the peroxide have caused a sore like that?

rocketj1 (2217) | 10 months ago | What were you using the peroxide for in the firstplace? Are you the person who was dealing with an infected and loose tooth? If that is you, then it could possibly be caused by the tooth itself. The tooth could be abscessing.

skysuccess (2418) | 10 months ago | rocketj1, I'd like to quote: "i was using straight peroxide like three to four times a day, for probably almost two weeks."
FYI, TnWoman, did not dilute her peroxide for rinising and as a result she is having a flare up on her gums and the sore which I suspect may be an ulcer.
TnWoman, Why did you not use the normal off the shelf mouthwash? It would have been much more gentler for your mouth and still have helped with your oral hygiene. Anyway, I think you should let your mouth have a rest and just rinse with normal tap water. Check if that sore in your mouth might be an ulcer and if it is just use an ulcer cream if it is rather uncomfortable. Try to avoid agitating or caustic solutions for the moment now as this will only bring about more damage than good.
Also, it would help if you could go on a soft and soupy diet to help with your recovery and comfort to that sore mouth. Give it a rest.
Take care and have a nice day here.

rocketj1 (2217) | 10 months ago | Skysuccess,
Check my first response. My second response is in regards to another discussion in which I believe she mentioned that she had a loose and aching tooth. I believe this is where she began the peroxide rinse in order to avoid the dentist. I never recommended the rinse but rather seeing her dentist

| purple666 (1) | 10 months ago | Mouthwash has alcohol in it which hurts worse if you have any kind of infection, and will inflame it more. Peroxide is good for you. I've been rinsing with it for years, 1/2 peroxide half water. Whitens teeth too. Dilute and only use it once per day. I would think the peroxide would help keep the sore clean. Maybe you got the sore due to stress or maybe you ate something you were allergic too. Who knows. Stop worrying. I think water picks are great. Try one of those on your teeth and gums. I bet you'll like it.

2. carolbee (6802) | 10 months ago | I would definitely start rinsing your mouth out with salt water. It might burn a little but should help heal it. The mouth heals pretty fast. If it doesn't help within a few days, you might call a dentist and see about getting in so he can check it out.
Hope you get some relief soon, carolbee

3. patriciaqualls (4604) | 10 months ago | Hello you should only use peroxide like once or twice a week and make sure it is diluted. Don't rinse with salt water it will make it worse. Yes the peroxide could have made this sore in your mouth if you didn't dilute the peroxide. I would see if it get's better in a couple of days. If it doesn't then go to the dentist or to your doctor. Take care and have a nice day. I hope it will feel better soon that sounds painful.

4. leatherandlatex (233) | 10 months ago | Why on Gods' green earth would you rinse your mouth with straight peroxide? Not only that, but why would you go to the extreme of rinsing with it 3-4 times a day? I can see the reason behind using it once or twice a week, but every day is ludacris. Of course you have a sore. That would hurt soo bad. I guess it depends on the reasoning behind you rinsing your mouth with it. I have absolutely no clue what you do now besides to stop using it. Good luck with that.
